this other alarm clock thread got me thinking about that shit. i just sit my alarm on the table my other lamp sits on, across the room from the bed. i guess it would be the "reading area" if i knew how to read

anyways my alarm hits at 5:15 and i just get up and turn it off. i've only gone back to sleep once with this configuration since last halloween or so

I have my cellphone set to go off twice and my clock once. I still regularly sleep through all 3 even though I somehow magically turn them all off

my brain doesnt react to any of the noises my cellphone makes. never tried to wake up to vibrate though. i think my alarm clock is just a monster. i got like 3 of them for christmas one year (people trying to tell me something? haha), but one of them is CRAZY LOUD, YO. it scares me so much i have to go turn it off. and its on the way to the bathroom, so i can hit it in stride.

i think the snooze button is for drunks and pot junkies!!!1

^ see this morning i woke up at 3am and was like SHIT i will never be able to fall asleep, next thing i know the alarm was going off and i was like SHIT

yeah i am a snooze junky too, even though i know using the snooze makes your more tired than if i would just get up the first time.

but i have my alarm set to go off at 6:00am. snooze till 6:08, snooze till 6:16, snooze till 6:24 and that's when i finally get up.

I could and probably should just get up at 6 or 6:08 but i always have my fans going and my room cold so getting out of the warm covers voluntarily is almost impossible.

I set my alarm to ~30 min before I need to get up, so I can hit snooze 3 times (it goes off every 10 min). Then I set my cell phone alarm for the time I really need to wake up, so I don't get confused as to how many times I have hit snooze on the regular alarm.

[Edited on November 27, 2007 at 8:20 AM. Reason : I live for days in which I set neither alarm ]

i think its just cause mine is so insanely early. if it was 7:30 i bet i wouldnt get up. but at 5:15 you feel like you're gonna wake up your entire zip code if you dont turn the damn clock off

^same here, i LOVE being able to fall asleep on the couch watching tv

i turn my alarm off in my sleep

ive missed many a days because of this

and i have to have my alarm right next to me on full blast or I wont wake up. Ive been like this since i was a kid. My mom use to have to shake me for me to wake up, and even sometimes that wasnt enough so she use to pour water on my face.

I never hit the snooze button

hell, 95% of the time my dog wakes me up 5-10 minutes before the alarm goes off so I can take her outside. After being up and in the cold for 10 minutes, its hard to fall back asleep

my brother has always had a bit of a hearing problem. i think he would be legally deaf, but is too proud to go test it... and he gets by on reading lips and shit like that.

but when he's asleep, you have to drop kick him in the head to wake him up. well i guess if youre not his older brother you might try something a little less violent, but i like to drop kick him. cause yelling in his face wont work. he might as well be dead

hahaha, funny you should say that. My older brother would do that shit sometimes. he'd drop elbow me sometimes ( i think thats what you call it ). But that was just when i was a kid.

and then in h.s my mom would send my little sister to pour water on my face.

I set alarms for 630 and 645 and 715, my snooze button would do the trick...but I use my phone as an alarm and tend to hit the wrong button (turning off the alarm) in a half conscious daze and wake up to it being like 8:30 and me being late to work... I def feel a whole hell of a lot better if I just get up the first time it goes off and don't keep going back to sleep, but usually I at least get that extra 15 mins from 630 to 645 before I get in the shower...

I've done the multiple alarms thing, too. I think the problem with this is that you turn your alarm off, knowing you have another one coming. And by the time you get to the third alarm, you still think you have another one coming when you don't.

The only way I've found to get up on time is to stay up all night and be awake when that time rolls around. And it sucks cause on some days I don't have class until 11 so I have to stay up until 11. It's not like I can go into work at 5a, impress everybody as the early bird, do my work, and leave early. I'm stuck on somebody else's time, waiting for class to start.

It's incredibly frustrating to go to bed with all your alarms set, a full 8 hours of sleep planned for, and then wake up at 3 o'clock in the afternoon like some kinda bum. So I just stay up all night and don't risk it.

That's a bit excessive eh? If you can consistently sleep that long I'd say something is wrong with you

^indeed

if you can't get up before 11am with 8 hours of sleep planned, then you have something else going on

yes, how can you not use a snooze, especially when its freezing cold outside the bed and toasty in bed

In HS when i actually had to be up early i had 3 alarm clocks, one that i used to hide under my dresser so i had to dig at it to get it to stop going off. I always set it between radio stations so it makes that god awful screetching sound

I try not to, but if I'm deprived of sleep at all I usually hit it once, twice in rare occasions.

my roommate in college had never used one.. his mom apparently told him it was pointless and he should just get up the first time it went off (and believe me, he did EVERY thing his mom told him to do...). I got him to try it once, I don't think he's been on time to anything since

why don't you snooze button people just set the first alarm to the final time you'd hit snooze. All that waking up and going back to sleep and waking up.... would make me even more tired.

I hit the snooze button WAAAAY too much.

This time of year seems to be the hardest.

Anybody ever used an ambiant light alarm clock, one that's supposed to wake you gently with light?

alarms never work for me. i just cant wake up in the morning if its not when my body wants to wake up. One time my alarm went off at 2 in the morning and my dog was barking becasue of it and my roomate had to come in and wake me up. My mom used to have a squirt bottle by my door so in the mornings to go to class she would spray me with it god did i hate that.

ive started setting a multi alarm on 10 minute snooze patterns, alarms 5 minutes apart.

i realize my clock has the capacity to alter the snooze time, hence the 10 minutes... however it just seems more right
