Mine's about to hit the 6 year mark.

That's like archaic.

the "heart" of the machine (aka processor/mobo): right about 2 years

the oldest components (case and monitor): over 9 years. November 1998 represent!

Though I did just build a new PC for primary/gaming duty. This machine will become secondary and my "old" PC, another 1998 survivor that's still chugging along, finally hits retirement.

The 1998 monitor will continue in service.

I got a P2 Compaq back in 1997 or 1998

when it shit the bed, i pirated all the parts i could off of it (cd and disc drives, etc...don't remember what else) and built a new computer, prob around 2001 or so. It's been a continually evolving piece of gear since then...everything has been replaced at least once (to include the case), but usually only one or two pieces at a time (biggest update was new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, nearly 4 years ago).

it has lots of problems, though...doesn't stay connected to the wireless network most of the time...I continually have to repair the connection (this may be a setup error of some sort, but i'll be damned if i can figure it out, and my roommates' computers don't suffer from this affliction).

it also gets the blue screen of death/restarts on its own/turns off on its own several times per day.

gonna buy a laptop to replace it, but don't want to spend the money.

^ just get an e-machine desktop you can get one that will suffice for less than $200

If you have any superior parts in your old computer put them in the new one.
