it is called "checking to see if the speedo is accurate"

i'd imagine you'd have to find a place with a dyno or something

ask at the AAA place on avent ferry, i always go there to get my oil changed and shit

drive side by side with one of your friends while on the phone. See if your speeds are close. If they are not then get your car checked out or try it with a different side car.

drive past a roadside radar display, that's about as accurate as you need.

you can also use the following and some math to calculate the actual speeds, going off your tachometer reading:

- engine speed
- ratio of gear you are in
- final drive ratio
- tire circumference

multiply them with the proper conversion factors and you can get mph.

haha, that shit doesn't matter, really--it's all about convincing the DA that you're a good driver, which is usually pretty easy anywhere in nc but wake county

yea i'm not worried about it, dad wants to have it checked out and i figure it wouldn't hurt anything.

the cop even said the DA would be easy to convince.

no one in wake county does speedometer calibration

they do in craven county though

and it does hold up in court. many times (depending on how much over you were) just getting a speedometer calibration can get your ticket reduced, no matter what the calibration report says

I'll look around. But the only place I know of is in New Bern (Craven County), but I'm not saying that's the only place they do it, just the only one I know of since I had to get it done. I'll look and see if I have their name and you can call and see if they know of other places.

i got a citation for 16 over - it was dismissed. just don't look like a hooligan when you talk to the DA and you'll be fine - they just want you to pay court costs.

yah. since this is your first ticket. you might be good to go.

dress nice, get there early.

if it was me, i wouldnt get a lawyer. i would see what the DA says. if he wants to shaft you, tell him that youve never done this before and you want to see if you can come back with a lawyer.

Yea, I wish I had gotten my ticket in Wake County. Lot easier to deal with than getting one in Rapides Parish, Louisiana.

cough up the money for a lawyer, you're gonna pay almost as much in court costs and fees anyways, it's probably worth the other $100 for you not to have a ulcer from trying to figure this shit out...

^^wake county sucks for tickets now, you can't get them dropped for improper equipment unlike most counties. after my last reckless driving/speeding ticket my lawyer told they were starting a new ordinance that would make it damn near impossible to get anything over 70 dropped. that was over a year ago so im not sure how that actually turned out but wake county is def not the county to get a ticket in

what was the speed again? just go to court, talk to DA, ask him to drop to < 10 over. 99% chance he will. if he declines, tell them you want to get a lawyer, they will continue it. get lawyer, pay lawyer, lawyer takes care of it, done.

they might ask why you were speeding.

try to come up with something kind of funny.

like you went there for the NCSU game and lost and were just really sad.

well thats not really funny, but still.

tell them you traveled all that way. it was your first college football game blah blah

the cop asked me how fast i was going and i said "12"

but seriously the only reason i was speeding is because i went down 85south for way too long and ended up 30mi outside of charlotte. i pulled into a gas station and asked for directions and then once i knew where i needed to go i sped so i wouldn't be hella late getting home.

go in, ask if they will reduce it to 9 over, plead no contest.

if he doesn't reduce it (i've never heard of him not) then ask for a continuance to get a lawyer.

i've had speeds more than 21 over get reduced to 9 over without a problem, 110 court cost, 10 fine, but these new laws may have changed that....

there is a place at new bern avenue and blount st. that will do this. if you are headed east on new bern it is on the right at the corner with blount. its a shitty white building and there is a sign that says "speedometers" and other car crap. it costs about $30
