Ok, where does everyone buy their (real) Christmas trees? 11/29/2007 9:22:23 AM |

Food Lion had them for $29.99 last weekend, which seems way too cheap to me. But I guess you could buy two for the same price as a tree from somewhere else if the first one dies. 11/29/2007 9:27:46 AM |

I got a food lion tree one year. They aren't bad but GO EARLY and pick out your tree. Be real picky, go through the entire pile before you go inside to buy one, have a friend hold onto it, then go pay for it.
I did this and enjoyed a fairly healthy tree for Christmas. This was at the swift creek food lion btw. The one on the southeast side of walnut street near crossroads.
Now I just go to the methodist church and pay $60 for a tree like every other idiot. I'm lazy and have no excuses, haha. 11/29/2007 9:40:13 AM |

food lion trees FTW, you just have to get out there as early in the season as possible. they have some great trees before they get picked over. Cant beat that price 11/29/2007 9:46:45 AM |

drive to the mountains and get one fresh cut from a lot. they last SO long. 30 bucks for an 8 foot tree this year + gas..but still cant beat the total for an 8ft healthy tree that will stay fresh the whole season.
plus i love the mountains.
food lion trees dry out way too fast in my experience. 11/29/2007 9:52:31 AM |

Does the farmer's market have a decent price on trees?
I paid about $56 for my tree last year from that church down the road. Farmer's market isn't much farther away.
Also, does the farmer's market have people who can tie a tree to the roof of your car with nylon twine? I've been unsuccessful doing this myself. 11/29/2007 10:37:24 AM |

I got ours from Lowes last year. They are pretty good though of course you have to do some good searching.
I love the way they bind them. They put them through a machine that shakes the loose needles and then wraps it in a big net so the branches are tied down. 11/29/2007 2:34:26 PM |

^ ditto. I haven't bought a christmas tree on my own yet, but thats where we (parents) would go. Usually $30-$40 would get you a good tree. 11/29/2007 4:53:14 PM |

where specifically did you go? I've always gone to the farmer's market but i'm toying with the concept of making an event of the whole tree buying experience for my nephews. thought about cutting one but ive got not clue where to go.11/29/2007 5:05:56 PM |

I got mine for around $30 from Home Depot last year and plan to do the same again this year.
Do you really think you're getting something different by driving to the mountains to pick it up? They're the same trees you buy here. It's not like these things were harvested 6 months ago.
Cutting your own would be fun if you have kids, but you can do that right here in Raleigh: http://www.ncagr.com/NCproducts/ShowSite.asp?ID=1936

I've gone there the last 3 years with my parents. The trees are very fresh and nice quality, I think fraser fir. They smelled great way into my birthday (22nd of january).
A little more pricey than Food Lion, but well worth it.11/29/2007 10:07:48 PM |

I am not reading this whole thread, but I know that combination garden store/ gas station on the corner of Hillsborough and Youth Camp(Just past the fairgrounds headed towards CAry) used to have trees much better than Food Lion and as I recall, cheaper too.
I asked the owner one day and he just told me that it was a friend of his and a small operation and that is how he gets them so cheaply.

We got one at the farmers market last year for about 35 that was wonderful and didn't die until the end of january. there were a ton to choose from, lots of different farmers there with a tree at any price you want to pay for it. 11/30/2007 12:09:17 AM |
