Oh, so the summons is for an interview, not the actual thing.

I might have a shot at getting out after all. It's just really shitty timing, I've got two jobs that week and have to transport a friend who's disabled to the hospital.

yeah you've been summoned for the interview process, which could take an entire week or longer.


my dad got summoned for a murder trial back home and had to go each day to the court house and sit around for almost 7 working days of interviews before he finally got called. they interviewed him and he was dismissed the following day.

but yeah, depending on the trial just have a total left or right wing ignorant opinion on the topic and they'll usually let you go.

Jury duty wasn't too bad when I went.

It was a pretty boring day, but let me catch up on my reading.

I think it is possible for you to get out of it if your disabled friend is going to a necessary appointment at the hospital and you are his/her only form of transportation, you just need a doctor's note.

If you're in school there's your excuse. Can't miss class.

If not, just go. You'll probably get paid by your job and you'll get a check in the mail to cover lunch that day.

Bring something to do. When I went they let half the people go immediately - a free vacation day if the job paid you. After that they called about 10 people every 2 hours or so to be interviewed. They let half the crowd that was still there go home after 3PM and then the rest got to go home around 5-6PM. I know all this because I won the "sit and wait in the room all day up until the last second lottery."

my dad was disabled so when my mom got called, she told them that she was the only caretaker for my dad and that he could not be left alone because he was immoble. She got off fairly easy. I figure if I ever get called, I will just tell them that I have two small children and no one to watch them (they go to work with me every day so I don't have a babysitter or anything).
