It's a good game but don't expect to be floored, like the first time you played OoT or even WW.

I was tempted to get the gamecube version. The gimmicky wii controls were just retarded. Oooh, look at me, I'm really swinging a sword. Bah.

you know, i've never played Ocarina of Time

my "flooring experience" for zelda was via Super Nintendo

wind walker was pretty bad ass, but I don't know if I've finished it or not...

I finished the GameCube version... from the start it made me wonder why they couldn't make all GC games look that good, and why the Wii doesn't look that much better. Nothing about the game other than the graphics really stood out to me, but it was just an all-around good Zelda game (in other words, about 9.8/10). On par with OoT in my opinion, and definitely held my interest more than WW (which I stopped playing for a year after I was halfway through, then came back later to beat it). A bit shorter than I would have liked, but still long enough.

Really? You thought the graphics stood out? I thought they did too, but not in a positive way. IMO, part of the amazement when playing OoT or WW the first time was the leap in graphics from the previous games in the series. This was simply not the case with Twilight Princess. Granted, it's hard to beat the 2d->3d transition, but by the time TP came out, we'd already seen next gen graphics from the 360/PS3 and PC games. It was hard not be a little underwhelmed by the graphics.

I like this game and have played it several times, but I admit that it was a bit overhyped.

From all of the previews, it looked like the game map was going to be huge, as in on par with Wind Waker but without all of the time-consuming sailing. Now that I think about it, it only feels slightly larger than Ocarina of Time's world map. It's large enough that not using Epona or not warping would be a pain, but for some reason I thought that there'd be a lot more places to visit and explore. So much of TP's area is empty fields and vast, unexplorable canyons and gorges; the biggest culprits are the area surrounding Eldin Bridge and the area just west of Hyrule Castle with the spinner tracks. Surely there are other towns in Hyrule besides the castle city, Kakariko, and Ordon. It just feels like such a tiny world. Some of these areas felt empty and useless, as if they were tacked on for the sake of simply increasing the map size.

The mechanics for riding Epona feel very smooth and she seems to move as a real horse would, whereas she seems pretty wooden in OoT. And it's pretty fucking baller that you can swing your sword and joust while riding. However, once you advance far enough into the game there are so many warp points that you no longer need Epona. Also, fights are a lot more engaging since you've got all kinds of moves you can use. Combat is still pretty easy, though. Enemies barely hurt me, and health and other supplies are never hard to find. I don't want the game to be so difficult that it's frustrating, but combat challenge could definitely have been increased considerably.

The other thing that disappoints me is how vastly underused the wolf form is. The previews really played up this ability and made it sound very integral to game play. Yet about the only thing you have to use it for is to hunt poes (which, in retrospect, also felt tacked on. Instead of letting you hunt for them from the beginning as OoT did with golden skulltulas, you get thrust into it in the middle of the game. At least they didn't force you to do it like WW did with the triforce shards ). Only one or so mini-bosses require the wolf form to beat, but that's about it. You're not having to madly switch between your wolf form and your human form to advance through dungeons and solve puzzles, or having to use it to win boss fights. It's as if you just randomly become a wolf for random portions at the beginning, then it gets demoted to being some token ability.

At the moment that's all I can think of, but if I come up with anything else I'll make another post. But I'll close by saying that the sound track for this game is ftw.

Oh yeah, one more thing (MAJOR SPOILER WARNING IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME, NASTOUTE):





This game has the greatest throwback to OoT ever; Empletay ofyay Imetay. Complete with the original music and everything.

I enjoyed it as much as any other Zelda game. The only disappointment was the fact that this game was clearly designed for the Gamecube so the graphics don't exactly scream amazing! and the wii controls feel slightly tacked on.

It's a good game, it just lacks the newness that we got with OoT, MM, and WW. Dungeons were a lot of fun generally, I remember enjoying the puzzles of the Sky Temple. The story took a marginal step up in a quality, but nothing earth-shattering. New items like the spinner and double clawshot were fun too.

Outside of some music that played when Midna discussed her past, I found the music largely forgettable. Some good remixes I think.

Ah, the sky temple. During the very first run through I dropped out of the ceiling onto the floor in the first large room you get to before I realized you had to hang from the ceiling and re-hookshot some switch before you fell.

The 20 minutes of backtracking that ensued made that my least favorite temple.

The reason the graphics weren't that great for the Wii is because the game was designed for the Gamecube. It was originally planned to released in like mid-late 2005. And the Wiimote add-ons weren't that gimmicky, they didn't try to overuse the motion sensing.

The combat system is incredible and definitely stood out in this game. I actually liked the swinging of the sword with the wiimote since you could just run and slash at things.

Definitely not perfect, though. Musical score needed work. It didn't have the same magnitude of character interaction as OoT (I loved guessing at who the temple guardian would be). The game DESPERATELY needed a quick switch button to change from Link->Wolf and back again.

The biggest disappointments were the boss battles, which depended on glorified gimmicks. My favorite part about OoT was the boss fights, and this game let me down. On the otherhand, ordinary combat itself improved vastly.

Some music tracks were definitely more memorable than others, but overall I felt like every piece of music matched its environment perfectly. The main field music felt adventurous and its rythm made you want to keep moving forward, the music at Hyrule lake was surrene and peaceful, the music that plays when you have to rescue Colin and escort the wagon to Kakariko was packed with fast-paced action and danger, etc. I don't hum all of the tracks to myself in my head, but I felt that every score was well-directed.

I think another thing that disappointed me was those little bird things living in the Sky City. These little chicken things with bulbous heads are suppose to be the predecessors of the Hylian race? The race closest to the goddesses? They don't even look like they can manipulate basic tools! How are they suppose to have built all this grandiose architecture and technology? I'm not sure what I was expecting to see when I met the denizens of Sky City, but it certainly wasn't that. It felt anti-climactic. "Gee I wonder who these people were that built all of these ancient ruins and magic and stuff. Oh nevermind, one of them hides out in my item inventory every time I find them in a dungeon."

Wind Waker made me ready to do exactly that, but we never quite got it. Aside from Midna, I didn't really feel attached to any of the characters. Ilia and the children, I would think, are suppose to be a big part of Link's life, but we never have to do a great deal with them. You don't ever get to escort them back to Ordon, they hide out in Kakariko for the rest of the game. And the whole subplot with Ilia getting amnesia felt silly and tacked on to me. It might have worked as a side quest, but they forced that shit upon you in an absurd way. By the time I got to that portion of the quest, I was thinking "whatever, she's gone this long without remembering who I am, I'm sure she'll magically get her memory back when I beat the game anyway."

I was amazed that they were able to make it happen in the GC. On the Xbox, Wii, PS2/3, 360, I would have been disappointed, but compared to most other GC games the graphics were excellent quality.

When I heard one of the levels would be the City In the Sky, I immediately thought it would involve the chicken-things. They needed some way to explain the existance of the one in your pack (she/it did say she/it was on a vacation), and the one in the pack did have the power to teleport magically.

I thought it was fun, but my main complaint is that it was too easy. I'm a bit into the new Zelda on the DS and it's already trickier.

^I thought it was alright, but those ice soldier guys really know how to piss me off. Fighting one is okay, all you have to do is know his rhythm. But when you fight two or more, half of the time one will attack, and after he attacks (when he's most vulnerable), the other one(s) will attack. You can't get a good opening, and you basically can't fight them without getting smacked around a little bit.

this game was awesome, but ultimately i think that hype killed it from being all it could be. the next zelda that comes out i swear to not know jack shit about it until i play it.

the only real dissapointment for me was the music score. it wasn't nearly as great as previous games. the story line was top-notch though, second only to OOT.

I know I'm going to sound like a Zelda geek for asking this, but does anybody else think that Majora's mask may have been an invention of the Twili?

We know from the mask salesman that Majora used to belong to an ancient, dark tribe that was known for its hexing rituals. We also know that its capacity for destruction was so high that the gods sealed it away. Compare this to the pre-banishment Twili, who were renowned for their magical skill, particularly with regards to dark magic, and once they were perceived as a threat the gods imprisoned them in the Twilight Realm. The only other evidence I have is purely asthetic; the eye on Midna's helmet looks extremely similar to the eyes on Majora's mask.

At best it's circumstantial, but does anyone else see this as a possibility?

It's definitely possible, but continuity in the Zelda series is basically nonexistent. According to early interviews, TP was supposed to explain what happened between OoT and WW and it DEFINITELY didn't do that. I seriously doubt Majora's Mask was even on the minds of the designers when they thought up the scenario for TP, which IIRC is taken from a Japanese folk tale.

i'm trying to finish this right now and i've had it forever

its just the same old thing with prettier graphics

i do like some of the new toys like the spinner, gale boomerang, and ball and chain but I find myself using them so little

the boss fights are waaaaaaaaay too easy

This is another thing that I was disappointed with. After the cut scene where you restore the Light Spirit at Lake Hylia, I was half-expecting this Link to become corrupted by fused shadows or something, leading to a reason why the Hero never showed up to fight back against Ganondorf. Instead we basically got another branch in the tree that is this franchise's time line.

I thought fighting Stal Lord was really fun, but I have to agree. None of the boss fights were "fights" so much as they were another puzzle to solve. Some of the bosses felt gimmicky, and for some of them the way you had to use your new item to kill them felt somewhat contrived. I recall that you didn't always have to use the new item to kill the bosses in ALttP, for some of those bosses it was just a good ol' fashion beat down. But ever since OoT, every boss fight has been "figure out how to use new item you found to stun boss, then swing your sword at him a few times, rinse and repeat." I don't really care that you can do that maybe once or twice, but you'd think that these creatures would have enough intelligence after a while to start closing their eyes or cover up their weak spots or something.

i really liked this game, which i was kind of late to jump on the TP game also. sure, the game is just like the other zelda games in which you solve puzzles to move forward, but thats why your buying a zelda game.

since you are just starting the game, be careful of some type of glitch that is deep in the game and if you save at the wrong time, you will not have to piece needed to move forward. i got this out of the other thread:

Does anybody know what all of the wolf songs are (excluding Zelda's Lullaby)? I can only identify a few of them: Prelude of Light (OoT), Requiem of Spirit (OoT), Song of Healing (MM), and part of the theme for TP. What are the other songs?
