yeah. the oil has seeped into the pours of the concrete.
ive been trying for years and years now. still havnt found anything.
a powerwasher works a bit.
if you find something let me know. and if it works good. ill give you $10 for finally finding me something.
or a beer.

yeah, they are pretty noticable...i guess the asphalt has faded and the oil stains are darker than the driveway. 12/4/2007 2:46:15 PM |

Oh yes. it will fucking eat that shit for lunch.
Asphalt is...guess what? A FUCKING PETROLEUM DISTILLATE. It's actually what's left after all the lighter fractions boil off.
Just like brake cleaner will fucking wash away oil, it WILL dissolve asphalt. Loosens it all up, and then all the aggregate breaks up. If you spray brake cleaner on asphalt, you'll be able to dig the asphalt up with a shovel. How 'bout THEM apples?
About the only thing you can really do is try to wash it with a mild degreaser, but I'm guessing you won't have shit for luck. The only other thing is to coat the whole area with asphalt sealer.
I've gotten paint thinner on asphalt before and proceeded to kick up a divot with my heel...with absolutely no effort.

ok well yeah, try a power washer
i dont think that asphalt is as porous as concrete (from what it looks like) so it may work.
ive also heard that if you get like kitty litter, or that oil dry stuff and pour in on there, then use a brick or something and mash and turn it like you are grinding it in there.
its suppose to work with fresher oil, but may work on asphalt 12/4/2007 2:59:43 PM |

power washer wont work, even with greased lightning to spray attached(which cleans anything)
even on super concentrated, all it does is remove bits of the asphalt if you keep trying
it removes a LITTLE but the spot is still there 12/4/2007 4:32:31 PM |

pour a little diesel fuel on it and light it. just don't let it burn too long and get too hot or you'll screw up the asphalt. 12/4/2007 4:58:23 PM |

You only need one thing........and you can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Just wear gloves, goggles, and cover anything else you don't want to lose. Muriatic acid.......aka hydrochloric acid. Pour small amounts on the stain, work it with a stiff bristle brush.......it will boil right on the concrete too. Let it sit for a couple minutes.......then hose it off. Only downfall is that the spot you cleaned is probably going to be the cleanest spot on the driveway.... 12/4/2007 6:06:16 PM |

Whenever I get a few drops of oil, I just use kitty litter (just the cheap stuff). Just put some on the spot (after you've wipped up what you could with a rag), and use your hand to smash/grind the kitty litter on the ground. Let it sit overnight and when it should absorb most, if not all, of the oil when you wash it away. Sometimes it works on stains too, and since its only three days ago (as of now), it still might work for you. 12/5/2007 12:40:07 PM |

if you have smooth concrete then you can use orange juice to clean the oil up.
but its the pores that cause problems. and im not believing a single one of you people who say stuff works. unless you have it on video, or come to my house. 12/5/2007 12:56:35 PM |

"asphalt" as used in the title is technically concrete, which by definition means an aggregate (coarse and/or fine) and some sort of binding material.
asphalt concrete uses an asphalt binder (as stated above, the sludge left over after all the good stuff like gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc. is taken out of the crude) and the white thing that you think is "concrete" is portland cement concrete (uses portland cement as the binder)
