Anyone else worked out in the new gym area yet? It is really impressive. I'd say it was worth the wait.

The new woodway treadmills have very little impact. They are so quiet and simulate running on small wood planks.

why in the hell would you put a coffee bar in a gym? smoothie bars (ones with whey and creatine) I can see, but coffee? Hell, why not put a fucking krispy kreme in.

maybe the coffee bar company helped pay for some of the facilities?

because not everyone goes in their to improve their body and health

some people work in the morning to wake up and get a little energy from exercise, some want to raise endorphins

its perfectly acceptable to have a coffee place in a gym, its no ones fault but your own if you lack the discipline to eat correctly

carmichael doesnt serve only the grunting meatheads man

I don't lack discipline, but so many others do. Talley would have made a much better location, imo.

Talley is across the street, why dont you walk to the Atrium for your smoothie? why not walk to Weisger-Brown to do your damn power cleans

NCSU IS NOT YOUR PARENTS

The coffee shop went into carmichael because that's where university dining wanted it (as opposed to Talley, which I agree would have been a better location)

Do I even attend ncsu anymore? Do I use Carmicheal? Do I even live in raleigh? Does talley even have smoothies?

As far as I know, these are all answered with a NO.

I also prefer to carry my own gatorade, whey and creatine, and make my own peri/post workout smoothies.

I'm pretty impressed, except for the whole required towel check-out shit. But otherwise they have 3 of the nicest racks I've seen. They have two different sets of hooks (one is a deep hook and the other is a small j, perfect for squatting). Except I hate the hexagon plates when deadlifting.

there's a port city there because:
-it's really close to the bus stop, so there's easy access to those who aren't around just for the gym.
-they have smoothies and fresh juices, not just coffee.
-they do sell protein bars.
-talley is already really full, and it was probably easier to add a port city to a new building than to try and accommodate it somewhere established.
-and yeah, it is expensive, but it's also really good.
-they're adding like 5 more around campus in the near future

i remember when they got the new equipment for carmicheal a few years back........ahhhh the good ole days.

The coffee bar is stupid. Only women and queerbaits would use that at the gym.

my soph / junior years i used carmichael quite a bit

this past summer / fall semester i've been over at planet fitness off buck jones
its way more convenient for me than the on campus stuff has ever been

better hours, easier parking, $10 a month..i probably won't ever be working out regularly on campus ever again

the main thing that impressed me over at the new carmichael complex was all the cardio equipment on the top floor

The coffee bar/shop is on the first floor, the bit exercise room is on the third. There is no way this should conflict with anyone's workout habits. Hell if you walked in early in the morning, the smell of the coffee may park you up a bit.

It's go tons of cardio machines, good weight benches/machines, and free weights. There is a dedicated ab area and 5-6 water fountains so you never have to wait in line. The TVs are a plus to keep you occupied while on the machines.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of mirrors. I'd venture to believe that more people use the mirror in a weight room than any other piece of "equipment".

Yes, port city may sell protien bars, but commercial protein bars suck donkey balls.

Christ, people get worked up over new equipment. OOOOOHH ITS SHINEY

Zomb, it's a shame i didn't realize the waiver part until very late in my stint at state. However, I really do think carmicheal could benefit from some bumperplates.

ha, I'm just clearing up the confusion. You would think that they might try and capitalize on the uneducated and sell them some sort of quasi protein shake, but that is all they had when I inquired.

yeah just the special k ones. it's not that the people at state don't want to do protein shakes, because obviously there'd be a good market for them, it's that port city is a branded store and ncsu can't change/add stuff without their approval. this is the first port city in a gym, so who knows. perhaps in the future.

no i didn't go to port city java...it smelled nice though when i walked in the door

i was a little confused as to why they would put a coffee shop in the gym

in all honesty that place isn't too easily accessible to most students who would be interested in that sort of thing

i give it 1 year of being open until its turned into something else

^they're adding more around campus. also have smoothies and juice. it's close to the bus stop and talley. but hey, if all it's good for is smelling nice... then that's ok, i'm sure they'll find a better use for the space eventually haha.

If they turned it into a little cafe with some picnic tables with umbrellas outside, that would be nice in the non-cold months.
