I have a double cash back coupon (guy told me it is 1 in 100). I only have one book to sell back though. Here's my proposition.
If you let me see your book back i will give you the amount it sells for and 1/2 of the double cash back...so if your book sells for 50, you would get 75 dollars....i would get the other 25...
pm me if interested. 12/6/2007 1:19:49 PM |

How do you know it's a winner? I thought you could only find out when you scan it at the time you're selling the books back. 12/6/2007 2:08:36 PM |

can you not get a shit ton of peoples books together, give them 25% of the price increase and you keep the other 25%? I'm talking like thousands of dollars worth of books... 12/6/2007 2:25:36 PM |

look at it this way. the bookstores make a killing off students selling them overpriced books and buying them back for less than half of what they sell them for.
its just business. you're just in their shoes this time. 12/6/2007 3:54:36 PM |

um, not so much. you try staying in business year-round with only 2-3 weeks of significant business per year. when i was at packbackers, the store was LOSING money12/6/2007 4:05:35 PM |

If it was truly losing money then I doubt it would still be in business. 12/6/2007 4:51:44 PM |

They really should be like Christmas/Halloween stores that are open a few months a year and rent the space to someone else most of the time. 12/6/2007 4:54:39 PM |

^ although that would be a goodly amount of heavy merchandise to move around a 4 times a year (beginning and end of each semester)

it's turned the corner in the last few years, but it just shows you that college bookstores aren't just raking in the dough off the backs of students
[Edited on December 6, 2007 at 5:13 PM. Reason : college textbooks have significantly lower profit margins than most retail goods]12/6/2007 5:12:01 PM |

I took a book to PackBackers 2 years ago and they gave me $1 for it. Upon hearing a girl in the campus bookstore line with a teacher's edition of the same book I sold complaining (campus wouldn't buy it since it was a teacher's edition) - I stepped up and told the girl to take it to PackBackers because I had the regular version and got $1 for it and to go do that to get rid of it. The woman beind the counter told me that they were giving $75 DOLLAR BUCKS for it if it was the normal edition!!!! (Which it was!!!) I went and gave PB $1 to give it back to me and took it to that woman on campus who then gave me $75 for it.

It's a business and they all know their market share. If one store has 100 copies of a book, they aren't paying the same price than a store which has 5 or 6 copies. PB was buying that Plazas book for $40 this week and at the end of next week, none of the stores probably will. Just take the $5 coupon up there anyway, they'll probably give you something for it for bringing it in.

everytime ive been to packbackers they feed me some lame excuse about why my book is worth nothing now, so I quit going there now, the campus store has given me much more money back than those fucks. 12/6/2007 9:10:02 PM |
