i can't specifically remember ever reading anything by Edward G. Robinson III, Staff Writer -- but he's a douchebag and a moron

i'm glad herb is doing well and everyone loves him but the tone of the article makes state fans sound like giant assholes who never gave him a chance

but we didn't give him a chance . . . we only gave him 10 years to be something other than mediocre

"One reason students might choose energetic adjectives to describe Sendek is that he's been spotted this season roaming the student section at several football games with a megaphone, rallying fans and promoting basketball.

Sendek gave the ASU community another glimpse of his fiery side last season when he was ejected from a home game against Washington.

With ASU struggling near the end of the Pac-10 season, a player was called for a foul as he hustled on defense in the second half. Sendek, who had convinced his young team its strength was defense, implored the crowd to cheer such effort. He lifted his arms to pump up the crowd.

An official called a technical on him. He continued to gesture to the crowd, which earned him a swift ejection.

As Sendek made his way toward the locker room tunnel, he lifted his arms again, eliciting a roar from the crowd."

who is this sendek they speak of?

I didn't think it did. It makes it pretty clear that NC State and Arizona State are two completely different basketball cultures. It also shows that Herb acknowledges he made mistakes (not necessarily coaching mistakes) while here that ultimately led to the fanbase getting on him, even in success.

I actually liked reading it... Of course, recruiting won't be any easier for him in the Pac-10 with UCLA, Arizona and newcomer SC competing for the same recruits but he seems to be holding his own.

i guess i can see that side of it

to me though it sounded like the writer was implying state fans were incapable of appreciating the greatness that is herb sendek

and i didn't intend this thread to be knock on herb -- i did and still do support the guy, but i think everything worked out best for everyone involved

and that definitely isn't the vibe i got from edward g. robinson

I didn't think the tone was derogatory towards State. I thought it was just about how it's different, some of which is Herb's fault. The part about campus visibility. I only saw Herb on campus THREE times in 6 years. Twice were when I went to welcome back the team. The other was when he was leaving the Case building.

Though to imply that Herb wasn't given a chance is inaccurate, I'm not entirely sure it's unfair to characterize State fans as "giant assholes." I mean, we can be. And are. Frequently. I mean generally, not just with regards to Herb.

It's great to see Herb overcoming his own mediocrity. Now if N&O's sports writers could just do the same thing...

Herb is an intelligent person.

NC State fans are not intelligent.

I think this country is proved, twice, that unintelligent people prefer not to be led by intelligent ones.

^Yeah that is why Duke/UNC are beating the Clemsons/FSUs.

And who recruited Cam Bennerman and Courtney Fells BTW?

[Edited on December 7, 2007 at 12:31 PM. Reason : Cam/Fells jump out of the damn building]

Name one player on the current UNC team that can jump like Cam Ben or Fells. Throw Duke in there too and on those two teams you have exactly one guy that can jump out of the buidling and that is Gerald Henderson.

I hate when Herb is brought up because I always defend him.....but good to see his new school is appreciative. You ever stop and thing maybe that is the reason he didn't communicate with our fans? When people constantly complain about you, would you be nice back?

Oxymoron. Just because the guy is white doesn't mean that he's smart.

Archie is the dumbest wigger I ever met.

^^i was never a herb hater when he was here

but if you're seriously trying to tell me that UNC and Duke dont always have good athletes you're insane

Quote :

my point was, archie miller was not athletic

we've been consistently owned by UNC and Duke in recent history...they have a helluva lot more NBA caliber athletes than Herb has ever recruited

i'm sure he got fed up with being unappreciated at State...but on the other hand, I'd love to be bashed on websites while earning a million dollars a year

They play 18 games in the Pac-10 and they won more than 1.

lol, you must have forgotten about the 42-41 abortion versus Cal in the last reg season game

6-2 with losses to Illinois in Maui (season opener) and to Nebraska in the PAC10/Big12 Challenge

wins aren't too impressive, aside from the margin of victory -- nearly 30ppg

the true test is versus #21 Xavier next Saturday at 4pm ET on FSN

win that and they'll get top-25 recognition
