though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for though art not so; For those whom thou think'st dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery. Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die. 12/7/2007 11:30:27 AM |

this is why i hated english. you could argue about something like a comma that has no effect on the world whatsoever. i think our efforts are better when invested in something useful.
but don't mind me. i'm just trolling. 12/7/2007 11:40:42 AM |

no worries... I've learned to filter out cuntish comments
a comma could mean far more than you can imagine language is one of the few, if not the only, means by which we interact with society and much of our world - we even think in language 12/7/2007 11:42:59 AM |

the study of canonical literature is the pursuit of over-privileged, blustery windbags apart from the benefits had by developing one's sense of self-hood and an understanding of how one is situated in the world
but to get the full benefit you really need to read a lot more 12/7/2007 11:46:18 AM |

aye aye captain. read in what regard - scholarly, or in general? i read quite a bit of stuff, and have pretty good comprehension of punctuations and how they can change the meaning of a sentence.

I would say "in general"
but one has to read for more than just pleasure
i.e. it can't be all Harry Potter and Star Wars graphic novels you've got to read some philosophy and maybe even trudge through some works of literature that are possibly tedious, perhaps painful. 12/7/2007 11:59:32 AM |
