Trying to find views of this hasn't been very easy, anyone know what each candidates views are?
I know Hillary said she'd support it and Obama wants to delay it (Project Constellation) 12/9/2007 9:07:45 PM |

to say we don't need the space program anymore is pretty ignorant and short sighted

I liked tancredo's response. "Hey guys... You just jacked off to fiscal responsibility and now you are jacking off to spending trillions on the space program. CHOOSE, YOU FUCKERS!" 12/9/2007 9:59:15 PM |

Ron Paul wants to eliminate it as a federal program. I can't say I agree with him, but it's also not even on his top 100 things to do in office, so it'll likely be left alone.
I doubt most of the candidates give two shits about NASA at all. I personally think it's one of the few federal programs not outlined in the constitution that we should seek amendments to keep alive. Exploration and fundamental scientific research deserve federal backing. 12/10/2007 5:55:53 AM |

I noticed the sarcasm, but I'm gonna have to agree with jwb9984
in a text-only conversation, you really do need at least something to clearly indicate that sarcasm is being used
either caps lock or rolling eyes, you pick
(in this case, I would've gone with caps lock)

I support a mass migration of humans to the moon, mars, or space
mostly because I hope it will be a boon to the organic movement and the complete elimination of terrestrial GMOs
oh and, the space program (at least the part that takes place within our atmosphere) needs to "go green"12/10/2007 6:45:41 AM |

I agree with Ron Paul. I think some money should be kept in order to maintain a strictly "research" program. However, currently the gov't policy toward space makes it prohibitively expensive for private firms to heavily invest.

I will not vote for a candidate who does not fully support the exploration of space, and the forward momentum of space exploration, NASA and private companies included. 12/10/2007 10:46:07 AM |

God damn got that right!
People go on and on about how govt. should be investing into all sorts of research and industries (subsidizing), but forget a little fact: THEY'RE THE REASON NO ONE ELSE INVESTS. The government will completely kill an industry with regulations which will effectively wipe everyone out except for the giants with the power to keep up and army of lawyers and lobby the government for more favorable exclusionist policies. And then have the nerve to complain about the poor performance of the R&D framework they tailored to their own politics.
Space is like this, nuclear power in particular is like this. There are a handful of small companies that would build economical small reactors in the next few months if all they had to do was prove that it was safe. We would also be reusing the waste for a whole crapload of things if the government didn't legislate that industry has to pay them to fucking throw it away in Nevada.
But instead, it's automatically impossible for any such thing to happen because there's basically a fee you have to pay to the government to use that kind of technology. And it's a big ass fee.
diesel consumer cars, biodiesel cars, electric cars, cars that run of fucking pig shit would be everywhere by now if the government didn't exclude any small companies that want to do this from the market place and help out the automotive giants.
Emission regulations, safety standards, and all sorts of crap do nothing but create this mold of a "standard" car that is a certain shape, runs on a certain thing, and don't allow any others in.
okay... /rant
