Completely Unorthodox.
The way I read this you could buy a car, keep it forever, drive it in to the ground and never spend a dime on any major repairs? It does not have a mileage cap or time cap. The only limitations are you have to bring it in to them ever 5,000 miles for oil changes, etc and it only applies to the original purchaser. 12/10/2007 10:18:50 AM |

You have to get your oil changes at the dealership? Ouch. That's where they make their money then. Clever...very clever. 12/10/2007 10:19:53 AM |

No I'm pretty sure you have to maintain a car per its maintenance schedule outlined in the manual at an authorized dealer. Thats several thousand dollars worth of maintenance.
Though I find it hilarious that Chrysler is offering this and not Lexus. 12/10/2007 10:21:29 AM |

Oh my bad I read it wrong. You don't HAVE to get the oil changed there. You have to bring it in for "inspection" in which they hustle you in paying for them to do stuff I guess.
I think there is a rule against a manufacturer telling you where to get your car worked on. 12/10/2007 10:23:21 AM |

^If that's the case it's not nearly as bad. Inconvenient, but as long as the dealership you go to doesn't have crooked service staff, shouldn't be terrible. 12/10/2007 10:54:07 AM |

check about the labor.
a lot of places offer lifetime warranty on a lot of parts. and thats it.
people get "suckered" in to realize they still have to pay labor. which may or may not be worth it. 12/10/2007 11:27:35 AM |

Quote : | "What's Covered The Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a powertrain component listed in section 2.4.E below that is defective in workmanship and materials.
Inspections In order to maintain the Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty, the person or entity covered by this Powertrain Limited Warranty must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep dealer once very 5 years. This inspection will be performed at no charge. The inspection must be made within sixty (60) days of each 5 year anniversary of the in-service date of the vehicle. You must have the inspection performed to continue this coverage. For your convenience, powertrain inspection logs have been provided. You should use these logs to keep track of each 5 year powertrain inspection interval." |
That's it. It's pretty simple. It's for the original owner only. It covers parts and labor. The inspections are once every 5 years, and the inspection is free.

when my girl had the transmission in her neon rebuilt under warranty it still wasn't free . . . they apparently have a $100 deductible 12/10/2007 9:18:19 PM |

during the 7/70 warranty coverage, yes there was a $100 deductible. The lifetime warranty coverage has no deductible. 12/10/2007 11:23:04 PM |

I have never owned a new car and have never really considered buying one.
I guess this would not be a bad deal if you bought a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/etc brand new that you absolutely loved and kept it like forever. I put about 40,000 miles a year on my cars so I could possibly get my moneys worth out of that warranty. Assuming I kept the car for like 5 years without getting tired of it and ruining it cosmetically.
And studies have shown I can ruin a car cosmetically in two years. ] 12/11/2007 12:02:05 AM |

they are betting on the fact that people who buy a brand-new car will probably be getting another brand new ride in 2-3 years. most every car made these days except for possibly Yugos and Pepboys brand will last 3 years of normal driving without having any significant issues. if there is a common issue, manufacturer would have been issuing recall and losing moneys anyways.

If this deal is still going on when the challenger comes out and they offer it on the challenger... that would be awesome and make me seriously consider getting one. 12/11/2007 12:22:08 AM |

also if the dealer recommends a service after inspection, you have to get it done. not at the dealer though.

That is not meaning they are only making 5000 cars in 08. It means they are making up to 10,000 as 08 models, then starting 09my production immediately after with other drivetrain options.

From your link:
Quote : | "Now Dodge is saying it could build and sell up to but not more than 10,000 Challengers in 2008, though only a Limited Edition version of the SRT8 model with the five-speed automatic will be offered." |
I mean really, it doesn't get much clearer than that. The first year of Challengers will be SRT8s. They've said they might start making some non SRT versions for the model year 09, which might start production in late 2008, but seeing as how it's late 2007 now, that means that for the next year (or 10-11 months if you insist on being a stickler about it) all you will see will be the SRTs.12/16/2007 2:56:45 PM |

it might a good idea for somebody who wants to buy a car for track/drag strip and just abuse it 200% in very short time. of course you would have to keep it stock, which isn't a problem.
just walk in there 2 months later and tell them your clutch is fried, threw a rod, and it is overheating hahahaha 12/16/2007 3:06:27 PM |
