I received my christmas a bit early and played with the PS3 with an open connection for a day or so... I then tried to protect it in case someone was taking up my bandwith. I was going to establish WPA - I disabled the SSID and have WPA w/ TKIP encryption. I made an 8 digit code since Sony seems to cut it off at 8 digits??

Anyone else experiencing this or can someone suggest what I should do?

Do you guys just do WEP or can you do MAC Filtering?

yeah, when I had it on an open connection it was not fast by any means - but it worked perfectly. I think some neighbors were connecting to it because I could tell when it seemed bogged down. I think without leachers it would work just fine for my applications though.

I did a search on google and saw a lot of people having trouble connecting to the PS3 with security settings.

Again - any help on this would be appreciated.

Hmmmm, I've been using WPA2 with a key and it's worked fine for the most part. There have a been a couple times where it absolutely refused to connect and I had to reenter the connection info and security key. I have my router set to only accept 802.11g connections and WPA2, instead of any sort of mixed mode, so maybe that makes a difference. Hell, I even got the WPA2 working with my Wii.

my router is 802.11 b and I am using WPA, not WPA2.

ALRIGHT, so I enabled SSID and made a very easy WPA Shared Key so I know I would not mess up keying it to the PS3.

my signal is 95%, the SSID showed up perfect so I know its being broadcast correctly... I know I have the shared key entered correctly....

I keep getting error code: 8013013E

how do you guys have your PS3 hooked up wireless?

I have my ps3 wireless to my 802.11g router using WPA without broadcasting the SSID and also using MAC filtering. I've never had any issues.

well, I'm using my wifes laptop to post this... it connected like a champ and with great speed actually. I did all the same things as the PS3 and it is still refusing to connect.

does it matter if the security key is all lower care, all upper or no numbers/all numbers?

For those who do have WPA set up with the ps3 and no issues could you tell me how all of your settings are for your router AND did you do the auto setup or did you key in the IP addy and everything manually?

One thing I find odd is that when I search for networks and select mine (broadcasting SSID now), it then on the next screen makes me key in the SSID - why in the world would I need to key it in after just selecting it from the screen where it shows all the available networks?

You should just add the mac address to the mac filter, that will keep your neighbors out, but you don't have to worry about the hassle of a WPA

^ done and done, what about MAC spoofing?

Should I do anything else to make it secured? I have only the laptop, ps3, and my computers MAC address listed (guess I didnt need to put mine) - that means any other computer trying to access it would not be allowed unless they could spoof my MAC address correct?

Arlright, so after the MAC filtering worked I added WEP 128 bit... I was annoyed with trying so many times but this time it actually allowed the PS3 to connect. I feel pretty good with that and the MAC combined.

Is there a good site to test the speed of the PS3 - by using the Internet browser on the system?

try to hide your SSID Broadcast, that way people on other computers can't pick it up.

I'll try that again tonight - I did so last night but had a LOT of difficulty getting my wifes laptop to connect. I tried to creat a new profile labeled the SSID... I put in the key but it didnt seem like it was trying to connect to it. I guess I don't know much about how to connect once the SSID is not broadcasting - any advice?

ALSO -

I enabled UPnP on my router but when the PS3 tried the connection it said it was "not available" and put me at NAT3 - I dont do video/chat online gaming, should I care about this?

Why would the PS3 not recognize it if my router has it enabled?

Also, MTU - clueless to this, should it be enabled on my router for the PS3?

I dont have any games yet so I cant test my online gaming experience - thats why I am so dependent on here, thanks!

^^ that easy? So what is your advice then if I am having trouble getting the WPA to work on the PS3. I found a lot of people having the same errors by a google search - I dont think its something that is obviously wrong on my end, probably some stupid setting on the router I am missing.

For those who do have WPA working - can you tell me your router settings (what is enabled/disabled) and if you let the PS3 set it up automatically or did you key in all the information manually (i.e. the IP addy).
