so a friend just asked me if she could borrow about 1100 for her rent this month? I know money and friends usually don't go well but she's in a huge bind. I wouldn't care about letting her borrow money, but I know she's always in a huge bind with money every month so I don't know when I'll be getting it.

sounds like you aren't getting it back for a while if ever.... it's a bad idea financially, but some people would do it anyways. nobody here can give you a whole lot of help, it's really just up to you.

a contract or something like that, she has about 2 jobs but her check that she put in the mail last week for her rent was stolen and somebody took money out of her account and her landlords came around asking why she didn't pay rent

her signing something isn't gonna do anything if you aren't going to take her to court to force her to pay if she doesn't pay... if she'd in a "bind" every month it sounds like a bad idea.

she does have a roommate...it's a 2 person place

they just write one check though, and the money that her roommate gave her was taken out of the account

if she has bad spending habits-no... She's got to figure out how to manage money the hard way

If she's in a bind because of reasons out of her control-maybe

How the hell is her rent 1100 anyway?

do it, but don't get your hopes up about getting your money back. Just do it for friendship, but she's a good friend.

My rule of thumb when lending money to friends. Do it only if you can afford to never see that money again. If you do end up getting it back it will be like you saved that money in the back of your closet and forgot about it, then one day you decided to clean and you found it.

i call bullshit on her friend no matter who the check is written too. $1100 is alot of money to not have for rent and if you are going to ask a freind for money. Sure she doesn't have an affinity for blow or dope?

Give her $2500 in Monopoly money, and in addition to paying her rent, tell her to buy more houses on Pacific, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

As long as you wouldn't mind if the $ wasn't returned - do it....

.... if that isn't something you're OK with, don't

I've done it before and will confirm, friends and money don't mix...
And usually those with money problems have a line of 'oh it's just cause this happened' mess that makes the cycle continue.
The sooner they 'get' that blame & excuses aren't the way to go, the better off they'll be.
Tough love wins.

don't even bother w/ the contract. if it gets to a point where you'd have to use a contract to get your money back, then the friendship will be gone and you should've just saved yourself the trouble and told her to fuck herself to begin w/.

This story reeks of BS.

A stolen check, somebody took money from her acct.

I don't know what someone would do with a stolen check that is not made out to them. People don't just take money out of your account.

If you value that friendship or the money you earned at all you will stay away from this. Late rent is not the end of the world anyway. Don't make her landlords problem yours. If she has such a good excuse for not having the rent then maybe her landlord will work with her.

If she didn't end up in a "bind" every month I'd believe it more... and she could talk to the landlord and pay two months rent next month, the situation will be fixed by then. They can not kick her out after being only one month late on rent once

OH yeah and if she has a job and has not fucked her credit up royally she can get a loan from a finance company. Tell her to go to Citi Financial or some shit. Unless she has absolutely horrible credit she can walk out of there with a check the same day. Yeah the interest rate is gonna be 20% but if she can pay it back fast enough that wont matter. You have to have complete shit credit to get denied from one of those places and if her credit is that shitty she ain't gonna be paying you back either.

I am telling you, DO NOT MAKE HER PROBLEM YOUR PROBLEM.

did your mom then go ask a friend to make that her problem? of course not, that'd be ridiculous.
