The one thing they will tell you is that it's impossible to resize/cut, so try not to gain a ton of weight after you buy one, lol 12/11/2007 1:31:24 PM |

Pretty sweet ones here:
http://www.boonerings.com/
My parents wanted new ones, and I didn't want them to get ass raped by a jeweler (markup is HUGE) so I spent a decent amount of time looking then they decided not to.
Next time the jeweler can deal with them. 12/11/2007 1:32:14 PM |

I just got my fiancee one of those artcarved tungsten carbide rings. I picked that brand because they offer a lifetime warranty that includes replacement if he needs a new size. Most jewelry stores had the ring I wanted for $599. I ordered it online from Steve Hydock jewelers for $269. Came in perfect in a few days. 12/11/2007 2:05:17 PM |

Exactly, with an over 50% failure rate protect yourself from financial loss. Give her a ring pop at the engagement, CZ at the wedding, and after 10 years it's probably a little safer to get the diamond then. 12/11/2007 2:24:16 PM |

Yup, and you know that if she compares with other women the ring pop will be bigger than what they got.
Thankfully I have removed those thoughts from the boyfriend's head, no stupid fluffy dresses for me. 12/11/2007 3:25:06 PM |

Dude, you should SO use a ring pop. That would be fucking hilarious, oh and you must post pictures!
Other option, "traditional" in other countries. Just buy the wedding band. Worn on the right hand during engagement, left during marriage, bottom of the sink trap during divorce. No need to waste your money on a diamond. The prices are horribly inflated, so why not buy something that's MUCH more rare and a fraction of the cost? Or get an eternity band. Many small diamonds = cheap, unique, and you might even get laid because of the emotional appeal of the name.

i just picked up a silver wedding band for myself. has a lot of etchings in it, which reflect a lot of light and make it look like white gold.
engagement ring: $1,360 (diamond solitaire, white gold) her wedding ring: $100 (yellow gold, 4-5 zirconia) my wedding ring: $27 (silver)

My wife's ring was gold and around $100 (and she's got a really tiny finger).
My ring was silver and cost less than $25.
I really liked some of the other metals but I know someone who had their finger amputated off because their ring got caught in a bad way.
Stuff like titanium rings can be cut off but the necessary tools aren't always available in an emergency.
Also, I've been thinking about moving my ring onto a necklace simply because I find that a ring gets in the way of all sorts of things. 12/11/2007 8:18:29 PM |

^sounds like the problem wasn't that they couldn't cut the ring off... more like it either got torn off, or got messed up bad enough that they had to amputate it.
the jeweler that made my fiancee's engagement ring said the tungsten bands can be shattered in an emergency. like with a vice grip... enough pressure and it'll just break in two. not sure if that's true or not. 12/11/2007 8:57:39 PM |

The only problem I have had is when I play slide. I use my little finger and the ring clacks against it. No prob otherwise with fretting.12/12/2007 8:38:32 AM |

Anyways, a friend of ours made our bands. I'm really digging the handmade vibe.

Hey just looking for some help on this. I definitely am looking for a white metal...but not gold. And I don't think I like how the Tungsten rings look.
So I guess that leaves Platinum, Titanium, Palladium or Silver. I want a very simple, classic band. I thought I wanted platinum for the durability but I don't know if I can justify paying double for it in such a simple looking ring. I had never heard of a palladium ring but I really like this one: http://shop.borsheims.com/Borsheims/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=FAM9879
Any inputs on look, feel, durability, price, etc.? 10/13/2008 6:37:46 PM |

What QTPie (who knows her stuff) told me is that it's durable like platinum, but less dense, and cheaper. I think she said it also doesn't develop the patina that platinum does. 10/13/2008 6:45:02 PM |

Our wedding bands came from Jared.
Just a heads up: We loved the clean industrial look of my husband's band when we bought it. We did not even think about the sharp edge. It rubs the fingers adjacent and so he rarely wears his band. We're going to have to take it in to have the edge ground down.
So yeah, think about more than just looks.

Boone - check with where you purchased it.... some have a lifetime warranty that for a s&H fee they'll replace the ring for life. No, it really can't be physically sized. [edit] Check with ^ though.... technology improves every day, and it's not something that I have seen done *successfully* yet.
To answer the palladium question for ncsuREMY9.... Wears similar to Platinum, but develops the patina more quickly than platinum (can easily be polished to look like new in about 5 minutes). Less dense, so not nearly as heavy as platinum. Not nearly as rare as platinum. About the same price (if not slightly less) than white gold. Pure white metal, so it won't change to yellow after a few months of wear (like white gold). Soft metal, but very durable b/c you lose very little metal to everyday wear (unlike WG). If you define 'durable' to mean not scratching, go for Tungsten... it's the only one that won't show daily wear. Titanium is ridiculously durable, but will still show surface scratches with daily wear (but can also be polished out).
If you need to know anything else, just let me know...

Yes, Palladium wil scratch pretty easily, but can be refinished in about 5 minutes to look new. They are white, like platinum.... not grey like tungsten or titanium
