i'm no linux guru, but i've never heard of a disto that was overly resource intensive.

Don't get the latest version of Ubuntu (7.10)--it's having some issues. 6.06 is stable, though.

I'm currently running Fedora 8 on a Dell D600.

I've only played with the 6.06 live CD, and that was awhile ago. I remember being somewhat 'meh' about it, but it definitely worked better for me than 7.10.

Yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 7.04. Now, over the past 2 weeks, I've gone from Ubunutu 7.10 -> Fedora 8 -> Ubuntu 7.04. 7.04 seems to be the winner, right now.

Does anyone have experience with Xfce?

why are you wanting to put linux on it?

Just to mess around?
do you use linux at work?

If you can tell us what your plans are it would help.
