So the dude at CC was telling me some shit about if I try to install the 2006 version of an antivirus program it will crash my computer. I was just planning on downloading the windows vista version of the nc state antivirus. Is that gonna work? I think this dude might just have been a dumbass.

^^^^ That makes complete sense now! I bet that is what made my damn computer crash last week. And I have the HP DV6405US. I just got it in August and it crashed a few days ago.

To tell you about what makes me think that is what caused it: I downloaded the anti-virus about 2 months ago in October (when the stock one's 60 days were up), and in about November it stopped updating with an error message. I followed all the steps to fix it to no avail. I then deleted it and re-installed it, and it still didn't fix it. Then Thursday morning I couldn't connect to the internet, called tech support, tried for an hour and a half to fix it, he told me there was a corrupt system file and we had to restore the whole thing back to day 1. But its finally fixed, and working fine. Actually, since it has been restored, it has this feature I never had before. If you have a couple things in the taskbar, hold your mouse over it, and a small page comes up above like a preview - kinda like on a Mac.

The only way to get XP on one now is to buy a computer, erase Vista, and install XP on it. I love Vista now that I have gotten used to it.

When it restored, I got my 60 days back of the stock Norton. Not sure what I'll do when the 60 days are up this time.

i put symantec antivirus from nscu on my new laptop running 64-bit vista and it is working fine with no problems....turn off the stupid user account control in vista and running any software will be less irritating
