^^^^Dude, I doubt they're trying to find new markets People tend to look down on Newport smokers; I don't see any people switching their brand to Newports any time soon.

I was shamed into switching to Marlboro Milds. I loved to taste the pleasure, but in the course of a week, I had like four different people make comments to me. Then I heard some trashy woman say that New York (I love) was trashy because she smoked Newports.

I couldn't take the prejudice anymore so I switched. Milds cost more and they're not nearly as satisfying, but it keeps people from talking shit. I've thought about just using the Milds packaging and refilling it with Newports, but I'm too lazy.

They're not trying to do that though. As long as I can remember, their ads have always consisted of cheesy white folks smiling and enjoying themselves. (I found some ads that have black folks in them so I'm wrong on this count.)

But y'all realize there are lots of black folks who don't smoke Newports because they're "for poor people?"

I'm telling you the stigma associated with Newports is too great for them to ever branch out into other markets.

ok i cant figure out a good way to single out one post so i'll just post a "in general" type thing

a) negros are not the only race that smoke newports
b) newports are by no means cheap and are often more expensive than camel or marlboro
c) newports use to be the shit, but then camel menthols took their place

I know they aren't cheap. They're some of the most expensive cigarettes. But people think they're cheap.

I went in to Smoker Friendly to buy a carton of smokes. I was pricing the two brands. I asked how much the Newports were. After she told me, I asked how much the milds were, and she was like, "Oh, honey, the Marlboros are more expensive..." And then she just looked at me like I was pathetic. She didn't even bother to go look how much the milds were. I wanted to reach across the counter and strangle her, but instead I just walked out.

ive tried before if you work in EMS or fire, i think its almost impossible to quit smoking.. a) because of the stress and b) because just about everyone in ems/fire smokes, so you're around it all the time
