Other topic was over 90 days old.

Just picked up these from the used book store. $15 dollar bucks for all four--w00t.

Valvano - about halfway through and it is very good.

I'm a huge John Feinstein fan and have read most of his other books.

I didn't even know Matt Christopher was dead, but he died over ten years ago.

Back when I still read, along with RL Stein, he was the fucking man.

Or anything else by Feinstein

'A Season on the Brink' is very good as well

Edit: Oh, and I see the thread starter gave a shout out to Feinstein.

Just finished Valvano and Caddy for Life.

Caddy for Life was great, got me choked up in a few parts and it was awesome to get the inside story on some of Watson's memorable moments.

Valvano- I already knew alot of the story, but hearing it from his voice was kind of a downer. It just pissed me off more than anything. The N & O and some of the academic higher-ups at NCState really fucked him over.

Next up is Good Walk Spoiled.

I read The Punch and it was pretty good. This was the book about Kermit Washington nearly killing Rudy Tom during an in-game fight with one punch. I learned a lot about the underbelly of the NBA as it was evolving in the 1970s before the glory years of Bird-Magic-Jordan.

Say what you want about Peter Golenbock but he wrote two books that I've read that were fantastic. Bronx Zoo and the Billy Martin biography Wild, High and Tight.

I haven't read a baseball book in a while so these recommendations are old and you've probably read them

but Olney's book about the Yankees and License to Deal by Jerry Crasnick are two good ones

^^^^ Coaching Third by Bethany Bradsher is pretty good even if it is about EZU's coach

Never read the Crasnick book -- I'll take a look at it. I did read Last Night of the Yankee's Dynasty though and it was great even though I'm not a huge Olney fan. Love the way Mo Rivera thinks about that Game 7 and how it was the best blown save someone has ever had (with the whole Enrique Wilson flight thing).

I'm a sucker for the old school NYC baseball books. There were a few great ones about the 50s that I liked that I can't remember.

** Anyone read Feinstein's Living on the Black? It'd probably be a painful read for me since it's based on the worst baseball season of my life, 2007 but he has wrote a ton of great books.

it's more about sports agents than baseball but it's interesting nonetheless

it's also funny because a lot of the book is centered the agent's relationship with Dontrelle Willis

I decided to get Living on the Black. Very good read so far. It basically follows Tom Glavine and Mike Mussina through their 2007 season but also gives some good insight on their early careers. I'm just getting in to the actual 2007 season now.

Probably going to read some more today at the pool if I can get my work done.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning by Jonathan Mahler- This covers not just the 1977 Yankees, but the Son of Sam killings, the citywide blackout, the decline of New York, and the rise of new cultural phenomenons like hip hop and punk as well.
