I know it's really [old], but I need PROOF that it occured
Quote : | "The following exchange took place at the Chicago airport between Robert I. Sherman of American Atheist Press and George Bush, on August 27, 1987. Sherman is a fully accredited reporter, and was present by invitation as a member of the press corps. The Republican presidential nominee was there to announce federal disaster relief for Illinois. The discussion turned to the presidential primary: RS: "What will you do to win the votes of Americans who are atheists?" GB: "I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me." RS: "Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?" GB: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." RS: "Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?" GB: "Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists." |

Quote : | " Also: Many of you have been asking me for the past 20 years for proof that Vice President Bush really did tell me, at a news conference at O'Hare Airport on August 27, 1987, "I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is 'One Nation Under God.'" I have received a 40-page fax from the Bush Presidential Library with the documents about that exchange between Bush and me. Click here to view that fax in PDF format. It might take a little while to load because it is a large file. (It took my high-speed broadband connection 17 seconds to load.) The direct web address (URL) to the PDF file is: http://www.robsherman.com/advocacy/bush/thirdfax.pdf " |
Sounds like that's all the proof he has.

^ if they vote pragmatically, and atheist's rights are important to them,
then yes, they're likely democrat, but only because [most] republicans are bigots
but nothing about belief in godlessness implies one's position on taxes, guns, etc.
there's also a perception that anarchists are liberal, because liberals are thought to be more radical
but conservatives want small government,
so, at least imo, "kill the state", "anarcho-capitalism" is a purer form of anarchy
than the "love big brother", "property is theft" liberal version
^^ word, thnx 12/17/2007 5:27:38 PM |
