Do people even read these things? Do they make an impact on sales or what? 12/18/2007 12:52:57 PM |

One of my photographer co-workers has a photo blog. I thought it was weird, but apparently it works out well for him. 12/18/2007 1:01:10 PM |

How so? Do clients actually read it and form their opinion about him that way? 12/18/2007 1:15:15 PM |

I have no idea. It's linked from his main site, so I assume some of his clients wander in there. If I needed something photographed it would be compelling for me. Some of the pics are really cool.
He's always really busy, but he also advertises, so I don't know how all his clients learn about him. 12/18/2007 1:16:56 PM |

I'm too busy working to keep a blog or photoblog.
Like right now I'm designing a 20 page custom wedding album in photoshop. Probably take me the rest of the day. 12/18/2007 1:29:47 PM |

^^ Dude, 20 pages in one day? Maybe you could consider setting aside several days for turnaround, it would make your life a lot easier. I tell 'em up front it takes at least a week.

I didn't tell them it'd be done in a day, or even a week. The turnaround is usually a 4-5 week period because once it's designed it needs to be customer approved, potentially changes and updates made, then printed and assembled at the lab. http://www.shootersphotos.com/weddings/matthews_designer/ is basically what I'm designing, but for a different wedding. This is an after the fact album so I've already seen these pictures a ton, so the creative thought process is stalled. Trying to narrow down 400+ pictures to the best 80-120 that fit in sequence with the flow of events and the pages is not always the easiest thing to do. If it were a traditional album and I just had to pick 40 5x7s to print, that'd be a hell of a lot quicker and easier. Also, business-wise I can't spend a week putting an album together. It's just not cost-effective to do so. Today is day 3 working on it off and on around various other things going on at work.
Retouching is what I normally do every day. I can knock those out because it's always something new to look at and tweak.

I always thought a storybook album was nice - loosely chronological, with clusters of sequences on each page. I am waiting for one client to select a number of photos that she'd like me to include in her album, and until then I just have to sit and wait before I can get to work on my first album ever.
Sort of stressful, even though I'm not doing anything, lol.

I'm certainly not seeing the need when I set the resolution to 1024x768.
