i think getting the SNES was one of my best gifts as a kid. I also remember getting the GI JOE headquarters when i was real young and freaking out cause the box was bigger than I was. I thought that thing was the coolest.
i got a top of the line viking pool cue one year too, that thing is still amazing.
hmm, having trouble remembering some others. 12/18/2007 2:38:06 PM |

SNES was probably better in terms of initial reaction. I had already been hooked by the first nintendo. However, I had ALOT of fun playing duck hunt and mario bros. 12/18/2007 2:55:41 PM |

my first decent fishing rod/reel. i was like 12 or 13 and my dad figured i was finally old enough to trust me with a nicer set up than the old ugly stick/mitchell 300 combination. it was a 2000 shimano sedona w/ ~3 ball bearings and a one-piece 6'6" graphite shimano rod w/ a cork handle. i thought i was hot shit. i used that rod and reel for like 5 years till i finally broke it flounder fishing on the pier. still use the reel for shad fishing too. 12/18/2007 3:14:55 PM |

^ with that shimano, all you had to do was walk back into a store and they would have handed you a new one.
(At least thats how it is at the shop here). 12/18/2007 3:26:12 PM |

Guinea pig NES this, from today
And then there's one particular christmas that i remember very fondly, but don't remember a single gift. It was at my parent's house, and we had my aunt and uncle over (they were the only local ones - my other aunt still lived in charlotte, and the last was still at school in alabama, and my grandparents hadn't come home yet). My aunt was still nice, they didn't have children yet, and my uncle wasn't on call. My sister was very young.
And it was just so nice, and happy and warm-fuzzy-inducing. 12/18/2007 3:58:35 PM |

that's the other lens he got me I'm right proud of him - he doesn't know diddlysquat about photography, and in setting parameters for lenses that I wanted, I explained aperture as 'the hole light through which light enters the camera' - and he found that for me. You must love someone who is willing to learn a little bit about your hobby in order to get you something to send you over the moon
(my birthday is 4 days before christmas, so he got me two lenses) 12/18/2007 4:15:09 PM |

NES back in 1989. That was the gift that started it all. SNES was awesome too.
None video game gifts? Shit, I don't remember any of them. Except for Super Shredder. He was the best Ninja Turtle of all. 12/18/2007 4:18:06 PM |

When I was little...all the Star Wars stuff...Millenium Falcon, Tie Fighter (the one with the batteries and led laser...and the wings that blew off with the buttons), but I think my fav was the simplest...the hover thingy Luke drove at the beginning of the original star wars.
NES was the one that opened the doors...never got a SNES, but did score a N64 in college (goldeneye FTMFW!) 12/18/2007 4:43:39 PM |

barbie pool, barbie dreamhouse, american girl dolls, nintendo, sega gamegears (one for me, one for my bro), the best thing we ever got was the fisher price three in one tournament table
my brother got that micro machine van one year. it was like this van that unfolded into a city or something and you could play with your micro machines in it. that was cool. sometimes i liked his presents better than mine. dolls were cool for like a minute but then they didn't really DO anything after that. i always had to spice things up and cut their hair...oopsy
recently: northface jacket, snowboarding trips - snowshoe, whistler, etc, ipod, macbook, ipod nano. blahhh christmas presents are less exciting the older you get 12/18/2007 5:15:11 PM |

Best Christmas Present = new car when i was 16 but it was one of the worst actual christmas days that I can remember
Mostly my favorites were Bicycles (except one year it snowed and i couldnt ride it until like 2 days later), American Girl dolls, my game gear, my NES...
This year all I want to do is spend time with my family and for my grandma to recover from her heart surgery (end sappiness) 12/18/2007 6:23:50 PM |

Santa left my brother and I a card one time with all these directions on it: Face north from your porch and take 20 steps Turn due east and take 5 steps and so on... took like 10 mins to get through all of them, but it was fun...
The directions led to the back door of my parents van... we opened it... AND...
A TRAMPOLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was an AMAZING Christmas present!

best present i've ever gotten:
an SNES when i was like 6... i think i stayed up for 3 days straight playing mario
but my mom always does this thing where she goes and gets me like 3 surprise presents that i have no idea i'm getting... those are ALWAYS my favorite... idk why, haha. like, last year, she got me one of those keurig coffee machines, a sonicare toothbrush (apparently i said i wanted one like in march of last year, rofl), and a 5 pc. ryobi cordless drill/saw/recip saw/other stuff kit.
i <3 her. 12/18/2007 9:40:47 PM |
