Hahaha my step mum was asking me about Xbox 360 bundles and I was (trying) to tell her about the differences between the premium/elite packages, etc.
Her: I saw something at the store about an Xbox 3 Me: That doesn't exist Her: Yeah it does, I saw it Me: There is a Wii, a PS3, and an Xbox 360. No Xbox 3. Her: Well what about a Gamestation? I thought I saw that? Me: That doesn't exist either. You are thinking about either the Gamecube or Playstation. Her: Well what about the Halogen series? Me: ??? Her: Halogen. It had something to do with Xbox. Me: I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Halogens are elements on the periodic table next to the Noble Gases. Her: There was a Xbox pack about halogens. It was green and had a robot on the front. Me: Halo? Her: I guess.

not sure if he's out of the loop or just technologically retarded, but I have to set up anything computer related for my dad. Last year he called me all pissed off because he got his new ipod and somehow he set it to chinese. He seriously thought it was defective. After driving over to their house because of this "emergency" it took me all of two minutes to get it working. I did get a meal out of it though

yeah i have to hook up a lot of stuff for my parents as well. wireless is always the biggest, luckily that hasn't had to happen for awhile.
and i swear, my mom is just now getting over her fear of the computer. For the longest time she wouldn't even touch it unless it was already on.
they finally upgraded and got a new one for the house, they used to have this VIAO that was so obsolete it was painful to watch my dad use it. He's that way about electronics though, he doesn't grasp obsolescence. We don't even have HD or DVR 12/19/2007 11:14:08 AM |

my dad isn't stupid, i just don't think he is interested in anything technology-related. one time i was at his house and he was like "oh, somethings wrong with my cell phone" and that my stepmom "fixed it each time it happened"....i was like, "do you mean re-charging it???" 12/19/2007 11:18:13 AM |

my dad's problem is that he doesn't read directions. He'll just open shit up and turn it on and then get mad when he fucks up or can't do something. I remember when he bought his digital camera and couldn't figure out how to get the photos on the computer. I was like "didn't it come with a usb chord?" He goes "I don't know." Sure enough, we find the box and it's right there. 12/19/2007 11:34:07 AM |

Man y'all are lucky.
My parents moved into a new place and my mom wanted one of those 'new fangled haha' microwaves that mounts over the stove. For months and months I had to hear about it until she finally bought one and had it delivered. My brother and I installed it and she has only used it once.
She still uses the old one on the counter saying 'I don't know how to use the new one'. For chrissakes the new microwave has less buttons than the old one. Punch in a time and hit start. Doesn't get much simpler than that.
And don't get me started on the friggin Tracfone. I disabled voice mail because there is no way they'll every comprehend it. 12/19/2007 12:17:57 PM |

Shit dude my grandfather in his 70s has a full wireless network and runs about 5-6 different computers. Now granted one is a Tandy 486, and none have any OS newer than 98SE, but he records, edits, and burns CDs of his churches services for the shutins (they used to just run a tape recorder, now he does full editing) and can tear apart a computer and replace most parts.
My grandma on the other hand is a technically inept and afraid to even touch a computer. Or at least afraid of touching my grandfathers computers. 12/19/2007 2:47:40 PM |

I heard of a study that said people who were born before WWII generally have a much easier time grasping technology than the Baby Boomer generation that came after them. Something to do with the problem solving skills that were more important to all the generations before and after the baby boomers, but I can't remember the details.12/19/2007 3:38:57 PM |

My mother, she got it in her head that she wanted a PDA, and didn't even know how to use half of it. Then when it broke she got a laptop and she uses it to play solitare almost exclusively. Doesn't even have it set up for email as far as I know. Won't get on AIM. It's annoying. 12/19/2007 7:19:30 PM |
