it probably only runs when it senses that your computer is getting warm. if it is not coming on at all, then you probably have an issue with the heat sink...if you have an HP pavillion, it is not uncommon for them to break and it is almost impossible to replace. i would suggest going and buying a powered cooling station for the laptop to sit on.

^ Good idea. I bought one for like 7 bucks from tiger direct, makes a night and day difference on how hot the laptop gets.

*edit* this is what I have.. I got it 5 bucks cheaper but this is still cheap and worth the coin
