"Parents Fight During Elementary Holiday Program

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- An argument between parents attending a holiday program at Oak Hill Elementary School Tuesday night escalated to physical violence, Oak Hill's principal, Sara Roberts, said in an e-mail sent to Guilford County Schools.

The fight began after witnesses said a father approached another student about pushing his daughter on stage during the program.

Three mothers began yelling obscenities, throwing chairs and punching each other as others tried to break up the fight, which lasted for around 10 minutes.

Roberts said she had to stop the program and ask the parents to be respectful to the children, who were still on stage performing.

Police officers responded to the scene at 320 Wrightenberry St., but by the time they arrived most of the individuals involved had left.

One parent claimed her daughter was hit in the head with a chair. That child did not require medical attention.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the parents involved in the fight.

They have been banned from future activities at the school, Roberts said.

School system officials have declined to comment.
