Its official! Finally out in the open, all official specifications and photos.

http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1022912#post1022912

more images available at:
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-chevrolet-corvette-zr1/537467/

620hp, 595 lb-ft torque, 3350lb curb weight.

To be honest though, I thought it'd have closer to 650hp and was going to weigh less than the Z06. I mean to charge $30k more than a Z06....guess now we just need to wait for performance testing and dyno sheets!

Same steering wheel as a pontiac g6.

Its amazing how GM gets the small details wrong sometimes.

Just let the god damn Cadillac team design the interior for the corvette.

kthnx.

corvette interior hasnt changed since 1937 when the first gen ZA-1 was in production. just compare the two and you will see.

a-fucking-men. I can't believe how shittily they repeatedly do the interior of corvettes. the C6's (while true I'd love to fucking have one) feels absolutely ridiculously cheap given how much it costs and how small of an amount more it would cost to give it the feel it deserves. also consider that people buying a new corvette aren't going to mind an extra $1000 for a more luxurious interior. gm needs to get its shit together on stuff like this..

but yea, fucking badass car

Because modern corvettes clearly have real chrome accents and a circular chrome lined steering wheel.

what is the purpose of the vents in front of rear wheels? does not cool engine, does not cool brakes. is it suppose to lower cd?

what is the purpose of vents below side mirrors?

what is the white shit on the hood?

just about the only functional piece is little hood scoop.

car is bullshit. i fucking hate it with passion.

Dude what the fuck ever.

Look, bitching about the interior is legit.

Bitching about the exterior makes you a pink panty faggot

Because that car looks mean.

Which is how a juiced up vette should look.

hate all you want, but this car is going to be a freakin monster at a bargain. maybe not quite the bang for your buck the current z06 is, but it's also going to whip the shit out of them. if you care that much about interior, etc. then go spend the extra $$ on a porcshe or something and have less performance.

i find the interiors of my c4 and c5 to definitely be cheap/plastic, but i also didn't buy an american v8 sports car to ride in the lap of luxery. it's functional, plain and simple. you also simply can't argue with the exceptional performance gm keeps throwing into the corvette. it always has been and still is a purpose built car, and arguabely the only true american icon left in the automotive world besides the mustang. gm has never advertised it as or intented it to be on the same level as luxery sports cars.

Quote :
"hopefully this will turn out better than the last ZR-1 did"

huh? the c4 zr-1 was the sports car of its time, and also a bargain for the performance it brought to the table.

[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 1:55 AM. Reason : i bet we'll see a 9.9x from a stock one, a current z06 has been 10.9x on STOCK RUNFLATS]

it does look mean, but it is overdone. thats what annoys me.
all they have to do is keep shit simple. car is badass as it is. no need to ruin it.

Umm, to everyone bitching about the "non-functional vents/scoops": They're all functional, and if you have to ask how then you don't know shit about cars. However, the lone exception is the clear hood section. Thats to show off the supercharger/intercooler.

Also, you'll notice that C pillars and roof are unpainted carbon fiber. Now its well known that CF yellows from UV exposure over time. Thats why GM applies an additive to its CF that has a UV blocker (this additive costs $60,000/gallon btw). Well done GM.

And how about those brakes, 15.5 inch fronts, 15 inch rear ceramic carbon matrix. Bigger than an Enzo, what what.

I think it should be standard, but if you don't like the interior GM has an upgrade option for 2-3k I believe.

This thread is typical TWW garage bullshit.

Someone starts a thread about what is probably going to be the fastest/most capable factory car ever built in America, and people come out of the woodwork bitching about the interior. Keep in mind that at least some of these people probably drive 12-year old 3-series BMWs or clapped out Nissan 240s. By choice.

No one wants to talk about the Ti con-rods, ceramic brakes, or Carbon fiber bodywork on this new ZR-1. Because that would be, you know, relevant to a discussion about a performance car.

I don't care what anyone says or of the paint has the typical GM orange peel in it. That car is one bad motherfucker and that's just about all there is to it. If you call yourself a car enthusiast and those specs alone don't do anything for you, there's something wrong with you.

^^not really. there were of course some of the typical issues to be expected with what was such an advanced engine at the time, but no major issues. in fact, as far as i know, the c4 zr1 still holds the top speed endurance record for going 175+ for 24 hours.

what you might be thinking of were the astronomical costs of repairing one. since mercury marine built the motors, they were pulled and returned there for any service. lotus also had a hand in the top end design.

i would LOVE to have a 90. that was the crossover year for the c4, having the better looking (imo) older body style with the new interior.

So the car DOES have impressive stats, be it engine output, engine size, acceleration numbers, brake rotor size, so forth. This probably won't help the fact that vettes never feel that precise, and the interior will be a shitty place to spend time in. I would be fine and dandy with a C6 Z06, this car is too pimptastic for me, but to each his own right? I mean, how does it make me any better or worse if I enjoy particular things about a car, like steering feel, or nimble-less (quite subjective of course). I do enjoy driving the newer Corvettes, but I don't think they're all that and a bag of chips. Performance bargain -that they are, no doubt.

I have to add that it's ironic your gallery is littered with domestic bs doing drag launches, and mine's filled with eurofag BMW track stuff. Appropriate enough...

Because with my post I'm playing the "it's stil a vette I hate it" line, and with his post he's playing the "riceboys driving old 3 series and 240sx's talking crap about the awesome" thing, and we're exactly fulfilling his prophecy, kind of. He seems to not be so ignorant, and I like Corvettes. You have to admit though, there's some truth to background bias, or whatever you want to call it. Car's bad ass, too much bling for me, but that doesn't make it any less capable. That, AND I'd rock a z06.

Here's exactly how I feel as posted on another message board:

There are just so many things just done on the ZR1 for the sake of bragging rights (aka: to better "Dodge", which is a joke of a manufacturer), and not for real performance reasons. I think someone at GM has "lost their way".

What GM has in the Z06 was something spectacular, well priced, technologically superior, and world beating when compared to cars costing even 2-3X its price. Now if they could have just taken a cue from the GT3 and taken the FLUFF and LUXURY out of the Z06... THAT would have been showing the world they mean business. A "C6R" for the street! Not this... 20" wheeled pimpwagon monstrosity that will surely "get them on magazine covers" and be the wet dream of every 16 year old, but will rarely if ever see any real racing use. This is more of a... "Hennessy'd Corvette".

A "GT3" version of the Z06... or an ACR version... lighter, amped up, louder, stripped down... woooweee! That would be a seller, and an image booster (the right image). They could have put in the racing bucket seats, a streetable cage, lost the A/C and HUD and bling bling 19" fookin wheels, gone with a lighter (maybe CF or Ceramic) 6 piston version of the already-stupendous 14" Z06 brakes, put wider/lighter 18" wheels all around, and sold it with R compound DOT tires (to ensure it would break every magazine test record imaginable), dropped 200 pounds (instead of GAINED 200!) and charged an extra $25K... and they would have sold every one they could make.

That would have allowed "Corvette" to have stepped further away from the gold chain sporting track suit clad stereotypical over-the-top-for-style-sake Corvette owner image... instead they made this ZR1 thing, which had butt sex with that image. "

^^^ sorry man, but you've gotta be a rediculously hardcore gearhead with your head in the clouds if you think either the Z06 or the new ZR-1 is some kind of Jaguar luxo boulevard cruiser, homie G dubs aside. look at the weight and the lack of trendy non-performance features. what's the point of comparing those vehicles to actual race cars? making it more hardcore will not make it sell

I don't think that article is saying it fits in with the jag crowd they're just making fun of the tommy bahama (open for chest hair exposure) wearing gold chained chotch bags that typically drive vettes... it seems their owners are as easy to stereotype as mustang owners... well hell they're almost the same stereo type just with 20k more a year in salary.
