Thinking about buying a domain name via GoDaddy.com. Does it matter where/how you buy a domain name? Is there a preferred "vendor"?

Secondly, could someone recommend a web host for a smaller site? I'd like one that's reasonably priced but that's reliable and has decent customer service. Feedback from people that operate their own website would be great, thanks.

I bought my domain name from godaddy and have had no problem.

I host the site on my own PC so I can't vouch for any pay sites but godaddy can host it for a fee, might even can get a domain/hosting package.

Is really cheap and has amazing customer service. I submitted a request to have PHP upgraded from 4 to 5 on Sunday and they got it done at 1PM Monday (Christmas Eve)!
