^ i will almost surely make the switch when it comes out.
iPhone 1.1.3 is already making big improvements, and when the SDK comes out next month, the existing iPhones will already be infinitely improved over just 6 months ago

I think people are most looking forward to 3G capabilities.

And I personally hope for copy/paste ability, and at least 20GB of storage.

I hear that rotary phones are making a comeback. This whole "internet" thing is just a fad.

It will be the year of true all-in-one handhelds. The iPhone almost got us there but full GPS, office/exchange integration, full internet and voip, massive media storage, etc. are all must haves this year.

It's almost guaranteed I'll get the new iPhone (provided it has 3G) when it debuts.

I only really want 3G and 16gb+ storage. I don't really care about GPS, but I know alot of people do.

What about Android?

Half of the iphone's apps that are worthwhile are google based

I can imagine what kind of stuff they would do for their own phone OS

3G iPhone with GPS and a real camera flash to go along with a decent camera would be wonderful.

I haven't heard anything about a flash... but I read something about a 5MP camera and 3G.. hopefully GPS will be in there too. With all that, and maybe 32gb of storage and a few more little features (like a form of cut/copy and paste) I don't see many phones being able to compete with it.

^^^ what now?
if you want to count iPhone's "worthwhile" apps, I would count at least:
Calendar, Photos, YouTube, Maps, Phone, iPod, Mail, Safari + maybe Camera, Notes
2 of those are from Google, and Maps is the only "google homegrown" app on the iPhone.

and with android, Google isn't developing the apps, just giving an SDK. Plus, android apps will be run on a wide variety of hardware, which I would think would lead to unpredictable or different user experiences

i wonder how good the cellphone tower triangularization will be on google maps on 1.1.3. good enough to leave the GPS out on the next iphone?

yeah so half was an overstatement, but you get the point - it's not like Apple advertises "Notes" on TV

I just think that google would try to make their webapp experience more enjoyable on their own platform - we all know a google maps app has already been designed - presumably by google. Is it out of the question to think google's own applications wont be designed (and work best) for android (or any other platform)?

As for hardware - it's no different than a users experience with purchasing a new PC, users should expect to generally get what they pay for - early adopters especially should expect this.

Anywho there's a lot of questions to be answered, I just think it should be exciting as it unfolds.
