Do you have to be a SECU member to use their coin machine?

i was on hillsborough leaving i love NY pizza one day and there was this homeless/beggar guy asking for change. coincidentally, there were 2 parking meters that were open for some reason (mass amounts of quarters visible/takeable) and i didnt even think to tell him.
strange thing was the guy had iced-out ears and a nice looking coat 1/6/2008 4:43:17 PM |

i'll be rolling my change up here in a couple weeks.
i never carry change in my pockets, i hate coins and rarely use cash so any time that have some for any reason i either put in my truck or in my giant tootsie roll bank in my room.
That thing has another inch or two before it's completely full. In my past i've used that money on drugs or something, i dont know what it will go to now that i dont do any of that. 1/6/2008 6:47:14 PM |

if anyone is wanting to risk going to jail over a coinstar that bad, just let me know and i'll take you into the free fatcat machine at my bank. only rule is that you gotta give me gas money UNLESS you can meet me on a day when i'm already banking 1/6/2008 10:09:21 PM |

I was so psyched this summer, i had a tub of change and i strutted my way into the local foodlion, but was shot down when latisha said that the coinstar had broke down....
went to harris teeter or something and cashed that change into $106, felt pretty good.
btw how is dnl not in this thread already. 1/6/2008 11:45:02 PM |

For some reason I find rolling coins to be kinda theraputic. I enjoy the counting and the sorting, I think.
I've definitely used the coinstar when wanting to turn change into bills on the quick though. $164--damn that's a lot. I usually end up rolling it once I have in the $20-$40 range.
How big a container do you keep that in? I usually use a cup, or something similar. 1/7/2008 12:11:13 AM |

it was the plastic lid from blank CD's, the taller ones, i filled it to the top, lots of quarters
then my cousin took a whole pillow case worth but only got $150, 1/7/2008 12:42:53 PM |

I also do change for friends sometimes.
One of them insists on paying me whenever I do her change. I've tried to tell her not to, but she does. It usually works out to ~3-5%, so she's still getting a better deal...but dammit, she could get it done for free.1/7/2008 1:02:39 PM |

you know, its time i start giving back to tww (the users, ive paid enough to the mods who dont listen). its done so much for me over the years.
i live pretty close to 2 different SECUs, and work kinda near another one so i doubt it would cost me more than a dollar in gas. and since i love internerds and want to give back, i will extend my free change to cash offer through the end of this month. just do me the favor of trying to make sure its like 20 BUCKS or more so its worth the time.. (no $2.33 or anything).. i mean i guess i will do 2 bucks for ya but its kinda pointless and im not gonna be late to work to save you 18 cents
this offer extends to greensboro residents or people passing through town, and it has to be during a time when i can get free to go to the bank
it seriously is awesome, though, i just throw all my change in a fedex candy jar when i empty my pockets and i take it to the bank maybe once a month. its like 70 free bucks that i would have lost in car seats and shit (best part is there is no stupid fee, and sometimes you can get a cool stuffed cat!)
SO pm me if you will be in town and let me know the times you will be around. i think i have to put it in my account, but no worries, we'll just put the change in the fatcat, and i'll trade you cash for the slip up front, then put it in my account. if enough people want to have a change-a-thon, we can set up a day and time. TWW BANK PARTY. here are the locations in order of my convenience: mornings are better. raleigh people should take my example and do the same, and fuck coinstar. dont let the man hold the middle class man down!
