They made me watch it in Kindergarten.

I hadn't thought of that, but damn that was one traumatic day. I've always hated flying and that might be why.

I feel bad for my teacher too, how do you deal with pulling 30 kids out of lunch to make them all cry?

its definitely not reasonable fear, except for the fact that i was like 7 when i saw it and it kinda stuck.

the funny thing is that i still would prefer a drink before i get on an airplane

also i would much rather climb in a shuttle than an airplane. yummy

aha, on a related note, this thread made me realize why I think it's OK to murder white women

we watched the OJ verdict in 6th grade

i think i used to keep up with too much news. i can remember flying into DC and being scared we were gonna drop in the river. also scared of flying off a couple runways without actually taking off.

i think at some point i decided that its ok to be involved in a disaster

(watch me get in wreck and die in the morning)

Sounds like you were keeping up with the movies.

Flying was easier for me when I was an atheist. Last flight I took as a Christian and the wheel was thumping on takeoff, I almost broke out with sweat from praying so hard on the landing. Didn't make a scene or anything, just closed my eyes and did it all mentally, but it was quite an ordeal.

To clarify, I was born and raised atheist, and converted to Christianity at 20.

Well, hire someone to perform fellatio in first class. That should cure it.

I was born because that space shuttle blew up.

I was born very early the next morning (early labor, docs said I was 4-6 weeks early but mom thinks it was more like 2 and the docs were off on their predictions).

That hangs over my head every birthday and I think about it the night before. It's not really a bummer though, it's just sort of odd. It's also never affected my fear of flying because I definitely know I'm not getting on a spaceship when I get on an airplane.

I won't be hopping on a spaceship any time in the future though.

^ You and I are both too young to have watched it in school. I got to watch PETA videos and videos about peak oil though. Farmington Woods was a very odd elementary school in the 90's...
