Navy blazer Dark blue shirt Tan slacks
Black belt, black shoes.... Is that allowed with the blue shirt and jacket? 1/7/2008 10:10:12 AM |

what do you mean by dark blue shirt? like royal blue or navy?
I have seen it work ok, but if the shirt is navy your problem is the jacket/shirt combo and not the choice of shoes/belt 1/7/2008 10:21:14 AM |

you should be fine if it's what you got. brown shoes/ belt aren't going to make a huge difference. 1/7/2008 10:37:24 AM |

I would go with brown shoes and belt. I like the blue/brown combo better than the blue/black combo 1/7/2008 12:04:01 PM |

No. Brown shoes and brown jackets are allowed though.
You gotta make sure you get the blue shirt/blue jacket thing right. Wearing the same color blazer and shirt can be tricky.1/7/2008 12:33:31 PM |

The "Tan slacks" seal the deal--go with a brown belt and shoes. Every man should own good pairs of brown shoes and black shoes. Concerning the belt, if you get a reversible one, the problem is solved:

Yep. If there are belt loops but no belt, i.e. with a tucked-in shirt, it just looks stupid, and even if I'm not tucking in, it just feels incomplete without a belt. Not to mention that some of my pants like to fall down sans belt...
*I will never understand why waist sizes in men's pants can't be trusted. A 36-inch waist should be a 36-inch waist; I should not have 36's that are so tight I can barely fit into them and 36's that are loose enough that they fall down immediately if I'm not wearing a belt. [/rant]
And while I know it might be difficult for a college kid on a budget, it really does behoove you to have a good pair of brown and a good pair of black shoes, and a reversible belt. Hit up Rack Room, DSW, Kohl's, etc. and you can get some good deals.1/7/2008 3:16:51 PM |

^and \/ - pants will also fit differently depending on how high they come up.

a lot of it can be due to the cut of the pants overall in addition to the waist, but i agree1/7/2008 3:19:00 PM |

oh i do too...but i generally go by the rule that if i'm dressing myself and i'm unsure of something to the point that i need to ask someone if it's ok, i just nix the idea and go with something else. most of us have decent fashion sense when we don't put too much thought into it 1/7/2008 3:23:53 PM |

The only reason Im tryin to push the blue black is because my brown belt and brown shoes arent exactly in the best of condition 1/7/2008 3:29:39 PM |

i mean i guess it depends on how it all comes together, and blue and black certainly isnt a huge faux pas, but i'd probably go with the brown as long as it was a darker brown and not TOO ratty 1/7/2008 3:37:54 PM |
