I just adopted a dog and her tongue is mostly green with some pink. She is a 3 month old retriever/chow mix. Is this a normal coloration? 1/7/2008 7:07:32 PM |

Chows have dark tongues, so I guess it would stand to reason that if it is a mixed breed it would have a semi-colored tongue.
It's a puppy, you WILL be going to the vet, just ask when you go. 1/7/2008 7:09:00 PM |

My brother's chow mixed breed has a pink tongue with purple-ish spots. So yeah, I wouldn't worry about the doggie's funny colored tongue -- just ask the vet. 1/7/2008 9:21:01 PM |

green? that's different...
my pup has NO chow in her (other breeds can have purple freckles on their tongues, too) and she had 1 freckle when I rescued her. 2 years later, they have multiplied!! However, her tongue was never green...

not true. it's a common misconception that if a dog has dark spots on its tongue, it has chow in it. in fact, it's simply darker pigment. just like a nose, etc...1/8/2008 6:12:58 PM |

Well the OP said that the puppy was a retriever/chow mix. Hence the comment about chows.1/8/2008 7:23:57 PM |

Thanks for all the comments, I just wanted to make sure she was healthy, my girlfriend calls it the moldy tongue and hates it.. but she can suck it. The coloration looks a lot like the dog posted above, but the opposite. 1/9/2008 7:35:37 AM |
