i just hope they don't leave the free version to rot and push enterprise. not really any reason to think that at the moment though.

Are you kidding? This is one one of the most important things to come out of F/OSS, right beside Apache and GNU/Linux.

I'de rather see MySQL go to Sun than Oracle. And that is coming from someone who makes their living off of Oracle.

Sun has a much better track record with open source. Sun will help it thrive while Oracle would probably kill it.

postgresql or oracle



mysql has some serious limitations that don't make it a big loss for me, if it were to go away
