Does anyone have an 03/04 Cobra w/ either 3:73 or 4:10 gears?
I am looking to change mine from the stock 3:55.
If anyone has a set of either 3:73 or 4:10 please let me know.
Thanks,

Would it even be worth the trouble to go from a 3:55 to 3:73? Doesn't seem like it'd be a huge difference. 1/17/2008 4:28:42 PM |

5% or ~150 rpm change in od
4.10 is a 15% change, or ~450 rpm 1/17/2008 4:33:57 PM |

4.30's work great in these. 1/17/2008 5:31:39 PM |

^yep, especially if you're planning to run a larger diamter drag radial or slick on it ever. the 6 speed still keeps it more than tame on the highway.
personally, i wouldn't bother with anything less than a 4.10. 3.73 isn't going to be worth the time/money spent. 1/17/2008 5:34:36 PM |

if you has a 2.73 they a 3.73 would be a huge change, but going from a 3.55 to 3.73 is next to nothing. not to mentionthe cobras love RPM... go for the 4.10s.... ansd then learn to launch. 1/17/2008 6:09:40 PM |

without getting too much into the details on manfacturing, and machining processes, i would reccomend richmond or yukon gear for street use, strange engineering for track use, stay away from superior and motive, they are cheap for a reason 1/17/2008 6:17:01 PM |

are you getting bad wheelhop on that thing? I drove my friends 03 cobra with boltons (427rwhp) and I remember first gear had horrible wheelhop 1/17/2008 8:05:21 PM |

Yeah it's pretty bad. I am not sure if it can be completely eliminated, but I have ordered a rear differential brace that is supposed to help some. Do you know of anything else to help the wheel hop? 1/17/2008 8:11:59 PM |

put wider tires, it will help with wheelhop. there are other ways, that may be specific to your car. 1/17/2008 9:03:31 PM |

^^^yeah, swap in a solid axle from a gt. i've heard of some people mostly eliminating it with lots of suspension work and the right tire combo, but most don't.
if you don't care about road racing it or anything, you'll be time, money, and headaches ahead to go ahead and do it now before you spend a time in the irs. you should be able to trade someone the irs for a solid axle or just sell it outright fairly easily.

yeah solid axle swap, and there are more than enough parts for the solid axle to make it out handle the weak indy rear that came on it...
but do what you can, Steeda has some nice braces and bushings for the rear that helps with the wheelhop 1/17/2008 10:16:49 PM |

which is why the new cobra doesn't have irs 1/17/2008 10:19:15 PM |

just put in the solid axle. Cobras handle horribly. Hell, mustangs in general handle horribly, not matter what Ford (or SVT specifically) tries. so just make it good in a straight line. 1/18/2008 12:52:40 AM |
