Odom expected to announce he'll retire at end of season

South Carolina men's basketball coach Dave Odom is expected to announce on Friday his retirement from college basketball, multiple sources told ESPN's Andy Katz on Thursday.

Odom, who reached the 400-win mark in early January, will retire effective at the end of the season.

The 65-year-old Odom is in his seventh season with the Gamecocks, who made the NCAA tournament once and won two NIT championships since he took over in 2001. He has never finished better than 8-8 in the Southeastern Conference.

Odom coached Wake Forest for 12 years, making seven consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and eight overall. His record is 401-268 in 22 seasons, including three seasons at East Carolina.

South Carolina is 9-8 and coming off its first Southeastern Conference win of the year, a 70-66 victory at Arkansas on Wednesday night.

I live near Wichita and the local sports talk guys here are worried that Greg Marshall will leave Wichita State for the South Carolina job. Marshall is sucking it up huge right now at WSU so USC might not want him.

^ Two years ago they made it to the Sweet Sixteen. They were average last year and Mark Turgeon used that Sweet 16 run to land at Texas A&M.
