if anyone here is on an intramural team, is it more of just a fun thing for your or do you get really focused on winning as much as possible? Do most of your teammates feel the same way as you?

it'd be ok to take intramurals seriously if the referee's actually gave a shit.

i never took it too seriously, personally. but then again, i was on a team that sucked ass

You should expect a church-league softball team-like seriousness...which means friendships will be broken and little children will cry.

Some guys might decide that it's a little tough.. it's a little too hard... a little too demanding...

YOU GOT TWO WEEKS AFTER FINALS YOU GOT A WEEK AT JULY 4TH YOU GOT A WEEK BEFORE CAMP STARTS THAT'S A MONTH

Go play intramurals brother. Go play intramurals.

If you want to coach a great intramural team, you'd better have a good resume.

That's a damn coaching mistake.

The kids are playing their tails off, and the coaches are screwing it up!

club wrestling was entertaining, but we actually wrestled other colleges.

intramural basketball were a waste of time because the refs didn't give a shit about what happened. I got asked to play one game for my dorm because they needed someone to foul for them. The ref never called anything even though I was practically tackling people to steal the ball from them.

I took it too seriously, so I had to quit. I don't like games being called one way and blatant, obvious fouls or penalties being missed, and games being officiated by people who don't know that a foul on a shot results in 2 free throws if the shot was missed. I seriously had that happen. I also had a game called where my team was called for like 20+ fouls and the other team was called for 2. No exaggeration, I saw the books. Then the "ref" had the nerve to hit on me when that game was over.

pretty serious.

our softball team scheduled practices 2-3 days a week for the 4 weeks before the season started and setup 2 scrimmages

to be fair though, we were joining an open men's league in SC where most of the teams were pretty established and we were told it was very competitive. since it is our first season and a lot of us havent played baseball in years..we wanted to make sure we didnt get embarrassed all season.

it has paid off well so far, we had a rally in the last inning to win 12-5 in our first game (we were down 5-3 coming in)

As a two time mens bowling champion and part of a final 4 softball team i can guarantee you, yes it is extremely serious, especially the big sports: basketball, softball and flag

You guys shouldn't bad mouth the referees. It's hard to go out there and run around for minimum wage and act like you give a damn. Especially when you get yelled at whether you call a good game or bad game. Especially when it's the 4th game you've done in a row and you're just tired and want to leave.

I always called the game as best I could and hustled to be in the right position but I missed lots of calls. It's the hardest job in the world and when people bitch at you because they're getting their asses kicked by the other team it really kills your motivation to call a good game.

well in all honesty, it gets pretty serious if you are a competitive player.

winning and losing doesnt matter to me as long as ive had as much fun as i can get.

there will eventually be a point that you'll get pissed off if you are losing every game because nothing has changed.

our flag football team at ECU went 0-7, and we even lost to a girls team. every one of our players played highschool ball and we are all very competitive and athletic. the problem was that none of us met up for practice and we were disorganized as heck. so we just threw things together at the field.

you cant get upset if you know you've tried your hardest and you are still losing the games. but when you dont practice and dont be a team player, then yeah, you are going to get a big mad

yeah, you gys have been too hard on the refs. I've seen some bad calls. I've seen some very good calls. But I've never seen the outcome of a game decided because of the regs.....ok I saw it happen once, but it was a no-call on a foul on a last second shot. Which that's common in the NBA or NCAA ball.

^^^hahahahah you lost to girls? i doubt that practice was the only thing you guys were missing. if you just cant run straight up the field, out run and out jump a girl, something is terribly wrong.

I'm ultracompetitive in that I hate losing anything! Be it a pickup bball game, a xbox360 game or tennis with my girlfriend... but that said, I'm not one of those assholes who plays pickup games like their life depended on it and dives after every lose ball and calls charges and 3 second violations, etc (and lets face it, we all know a few of those douches)

But when there is a high intensity pickup game going on, I play to win.. /herm edwards
