It just dawned on me that I've been in college for 5 years and never really did anything for spring break besides go home and work. College is winding down for me and I want to enjoy spring break while I still have the opportunity.

Does anyone have any ideas for last-minute spring break plans based on past experience? I searched the forums for answers in previous threads but the stuff I found was geared towards the younger crowd (undergraduate freshman) and much of it is outdated. Keep in mind that I'm 23 so I'm trying to avoid the college-ey tourist traps like Cancun/Daytona/Panama City. The Caribbean looks pretty appealing. Any nice places in Florida?

P.S. I'm looking to spend less than $500. Package deals are a plus.

$500 for accommodations and travel for 1 week? or are you trying to spend $500 on everything?

either way $500 doesn't get you very far for very long

A full week? Nah.

3-5 nights wouldn't be bad.

Driving is definately out of the picture. I drove home to NY for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and I'm tired of driving altogether.

Before you say that I'm crazy to expect to get airfare and hotel for under $500, you can fly out of Greensboro for dirt cheap with Skybus (http://www.skybus.com/).

did you check out the skybus travel packages from their website?

also you may want to check out skyauction.com for some travel packages (sometimes they have some sweet looking deals)

well the bigger question is whether you're going stag or with a gf or a group of friends? That can make a bit of a difference.

I did the same thing one year, tried to go dirt cheap. What I did was keep my destination open and basically look at flights a couple days before I left with no real idea where I was going. I ended up getting a round trip ticket from Washington DC to Honolulu for $350. I only spent $100 while I was there for 9 days so I came out at around $500 after gas and what not.

Course I bought a loaf of bread and a pack of cheese and some fruit to eat... spent the rest on beer, and I knew people to stay with for free. But if you keep your options open, you'll find a decent deal. What I recommend is checking orbitz, travelocity, etc. everyday for deals. They usually have a package deal that might be worth buying.

^^^^^Thanks for the link TAILGATE! I contacted the guy who is running the trip and I am seriously considering going.

^^^^I say last minute because people usually book spring break plans in the fall semester or over winter break. Flights start getting expensive if you wait til Jan or Feb to do it.

^^what's Panama City Beach like? I saw a few pics and it like of seemed like one of those spring break places you see on MTV where the freshmen go to...I'm a bit older so I'm trying to avoid that scene

Thanks for the replies everyone

It's unexcusable for this to happen to anyone.

That said, what's your excuse

Never had the money when I was undergraduate...I'd have to go home and work during Spring Break or else it was Ramen Noodles and pasta until my summer job started back up. But now I'm on a graduate stipend and have a few bucks saved up.

PCB is for freshman and hs seniors. Place is dirty and still in the US. I would prefer Cancun, Aruba, Cabo, a cruise, anything mexico, south padre island, and miami before pcb. Worst choice ever...might as well go to MB.

^Maybe its changed, b/c I haven't been since 2003. But back then it was awesome. I went 3 times over my collegiate career and every trip was a blast. The key is to be 21 and to stay at a hotel near all the big bars so you can walk most everywhere.

If you stay away from that bigass club (don't remember the name) then you can avoid the under 21 crowd. Of course, that much should be obvious.

I always had fun staying at the Days Inn at PCB. Harpoon Harry's is right next door and there's a Hooter's nearby.

Cancun is fun as hell. Everyone should experience it atleast once. Go while you are still young and can enjoy it.

My girlfriend couldn't get the entire week off so I decided against the cruise. Instead we're gonna go to the Outer Banks for a few days (not the most tropical of places, but still).
