i have all my income info, i am just missing one little form. i forget what its called. for a lump sum payment with no taxes taken out. not the w-2 but the second most common i think
i know the exact amount of what its gonna say, can i go ahead and e-file without that paper if i just include the amount? i might actually have a decent refund this year!!!1
and before you guys tell me about the free loan i gave to the government all year, i know. but i switched jobs and also didnt realize i had a decent sized deduction so i didn't change my withholding to reflect that. 1/22/2008 1:25:59 PM |

it will let you file no problem (maybe taht's not the concern) and to my knowledge, the only recourse would be if you got audited and had to have that paper to prove it was that amount
i have my shit all filled in on turbo tax so i know my rough refund amount, but im still waiting to file till i get the official w-2, even though im almost 100% positive its all filled in correctly.

yeah im not worried at all about the audit stuff, i'm just missing one paper, and its coming from an attorney's office so it could take for fucking ever. i just wasnt sure if they required you to scan those particular forms in. i know they dont for w2 and a few others, i just didnt want to waste my time if they did end up asking for it before i could submit it.
or like if the form is gonna have a tax ID on it that i need, shit like that 1/22/2008 1:35:26 PM |

thanks bigman, im waiting on a 1099-something
i'll check that out when i get back and see if i cant find the exact one and what info i need. or since it appears i dont need the form if i know the amount, i'll just call the attorney's office and ask them 1/22/2008 1:43:13 PM |

there are two types of 1099's i think
one is for interest and the other for dividends maybe?
but either way, i've submitted both before on turbotax with just the amounts and no form scanned on, although i have the hard copy of the form for my records 1/22/2008 1:45:50 PM |

Actually, there are nearly too many 1099s (or variations of):
* 1099-A: acquisition or Abandonment of Secured Property * 1099-B: Proceeds from Broker and Barter Exchange Transactions * 1099-C: Cancellation of Debt * 1099-CAP: Changes in Corporate Control and Capital Structure * 1099-DIV: Dividends and Distributions * 1099-G: Government Payments * 1099-H: Health Insurance Advance Payments * 1099-INT: Interest Income * 1099-LTC: Long Term Care Benefits * 1099-MISC: Miscellaneous Income * 1099-OID: Original Income Discount * 1099-PATR: Taxable Distributions Received From Cooperatives * 1099-Q: Payment from Qualified Education Programs * 1099-R: Distributions from Pensions, Annuities, Retirement Plans, IRAs, or Insurance Contracts * 1099-S: Proceeds from Real Estate Transactions * 1099-SA: Distributions From an HSA, Archer MSA, or Medicare Advantage MSA * 1042-S: Foreign Person's U.S. Source Income * SSA-1099: Social Security Benefit Statement * SSA-1042S: Social Security Benefit Statement to Nonresident Aliens * RRB-1099: Payments by the Railroad Retirement Board * RRB-1099R: Pension and Annuity Income by the Railroad Retirement Board * RRB-1042S: Payments by the Railroad Retirement Board to Nonresident Aliens * W-2G: Certain Gambling Winnings 1/22/2008 1:52:55 PM |

what form would I use to claim a car that I donated to a charity?
and would it be fair to use the Kelley Bluebook value of the car as the donation amount? 1/22/2008 1:58:52 PM |

here's a Q
i had some shares in a mutual fund that i got in a bind and needed to use the money from a sale of all the shares from
however, when i sold it, there were no gains and i only really got back my principal balance. so if the cost basis is even with the amount i received from selling the shares, i dont owe any taxes on it right? just on the gains or dividends i would have received.
that's what my tax form appears to say, but i wanted to make sure i read it right 1/22/2008 2:01:18 PM |
