personally, i don't mind a few boo-hoo we lost threads after a game, but when there's 20 Fire Lowe threads after every game, you can see why there's a "policy" in ST of no BS threads

^^ you know what, maybe a lot of users think it doesn't. i know it wasn't the typical sports thread (a copy and paste link off cnnsi or espn.com)

but i'm actually pleased with the outcome. it wasnt so much THAT thread being moved, it was that he moves or deletes every thread i make (and most of the posts) -- but i was expecting my 4th suspension in about a month over the creation of that thread. thats why i made the thread here, because usually beardawg is pretty predictable
1) talk shit in thread
2) move thread (so it can still be seen, its very important that the users see that he talked shit)
3) suspend me

so i thought i'd be gone, thats why i made the thread.

plus, if it doesnt belong, maybe he should lock it or move it instead of being an e-thug and talking shit to the users???

theres a difference between moderation and harassment

when CrazyJ ran the site, he held the moderators accountable for their actions. we spoke on numerous occasions when he thought i was crossing the line, and specifically said that there needed to be REASONS to suspend people, and that personal vendettas were no reason to suspend someone.

nael apparantly does not care enough, or have the time, to babysit the mods. thats why he gave them access to all our ip addresses

do you REALLY want a pissed off mod with a grudge knowing where you are? thank god i use my home computer for all connections, i can only imagine that beardawg would tell one of his non-mod friends my personal info by now and some jackass would email me at work.

im very active in the mod forum and talk to them via pm all the time. just because i dont pm you like jake used to does not mean i am not active.

the mods have access to the session list because aliases were getting out of control and this was the easiest way to do it. we could enforce the alias policy that jake set up or one account per person, no exeptions, but I think this way works better.

they all know what they can and cant do re: ip addresses and i have set out clear rules. it is to be only used for finding aliases, nothing more. if someone gave your personal info out and it was used against you, i would probably remove that mod.

you didn't say anything that i didn't say already. the assumption was that you gave them access to the session list (ip address, login time, and login "duration") because you didn't have time to go around chasing down aliases (that were made after the rule was created, hopefully ) - and i don't blame that.

i was just hoping that you would have limited that access to someone who doesn't seem to take tww so personally, AND someone who has the technical ability to be able to know what to do with IP information, and someone who could pick out a likely proxy at a glance. i realize that youd probably need a couple people on it due to times of the day and stuff.. but i think that if you had limited it to yourself, and maybe added bobbydigital and omarbadu to the list. qntmfred would be a good candidate to have access to that info as well, since i'm sure he could interpret it. these are also 3 mods who never seem to get into it personally with the users, and also 3 who i think you can trust not to give that info out to their "tww friends".

its just slightly unnerving to know that a friend of a mod could ask for the last time i logged on, and where i logged on from -- and while i don't doubt for a second that you would remove a moderator who did something like give up someones personal information like email or IP (assuming they ever use their company connection to login), it would be pretty hard to prove where it came from. and i think that if a user brought an allegation like that up, it would be impossible to prove, and benefit always goes to the mods.

i fully understand WHY you had to give people access to that info, but i think that the nature of the information necessitates some sort of "supermod" status for the few moderators who have proven that they don't let it get under their skin, and that they don't associate with the normal users. when i did my share of moderation, i was CONSTANTLY being asked to do things that weren't right, and i can only imagine that still happens. if a mod can't even take it seriously enough to actually follow the rules of the site, why would they give us the privacy we deserve.

i don't think a lot of us are asking for much, and a lot of the bickering was just silly. but opening up those lots to every mod is something that can actually move into real life. i know that if i want information on one of my customers, i have to submit a request for information to the right people... and while tww isnt your typical corporation or whatever, i think you should really consider closing access to all but about 3 mods and have the other mods submit information requests through them.

i think that even SOME of the mods will agree with me. while its not a big deal to the casual observer, someone could potentially do some damage with that info if the right circumstances presented themselves

thats quite a stretch anyways. i'd imagine it cost a lot, but 135k is a decent amount... but not out of the realm of possibilities considering what facebook is "worth" and what they offered that guy for that

plus there were years of programming and testing and shit that went into tww. thats an interesting number to consider. but to think that dnl has the insider info.. haha

i hope there is a little more discretion on this. this is still a college website, where lots of people live, work, and go to school together. just because a name posts from the same ip as another does not = alias. you've also got people that have access to their friends account for whatever reason.

as for beardawg having this rule about making threads that are worthwhile really makes me LOL. did anyone catch the "how do i know if my foglight bulb is out/how do i change it" thread he made in the garage a week or two ago? i don't have any problem with a thread like that, but if you're going to make them in other sections you need to allow them to be made in your own section.
