i lived in a 1 bedroom in dominion walnut creek - it was the cheapest option i could find and i really liked it there. It just depends on who your neighbors are.

Joel, there's a townhouse next to mine; you should jump on it. I'd give you all the hard drives you could ever want.

Jake, I'm not in the market to buy a townhouse right now. And, that hard drive comment was a bit much.

I have a friend who used to live in Wedgwood Apartments right behind Cameron Village.....their studios looks pretty kewl. Starting at 620, which is actually a little less than i was intending to spend.

anyone know shit about Raleigh apartments?

I lived in Dominion Walnut Creek my soph year and hated it.

^ i did the numbers, and depending on how often you drive back/forth you'd end up saving by not having to pay rent (based on $590 rent & driving to/from W-S to Raleigh on T/H)

as far as the topic though, the lodge, marquis, & ashborough at crossroads all looked nice. they are a bit pricey. the summit has fairly cheap 1 brs, if you don't mind older buildings.
also, there's a place around 540/rdu that was running a 1-2 months free on a year-24 month lease. check out rent.com for specials

Park at Crossroads - 715 for a 1 bdr. (it's where I live), but it's a lot of apt. for the money with damn good amenities (indoor pool, outdoor pool, really nice gym, optional garages, etc.) and they're new.

The Ashborough - They have a couple of different 1 bdr., I went and looked at the one that was like 695, but they have a smaller one for 599. Again, new apartments, nice clubhouse, and a good location for you since it's right on dillard dr. between buck jones and tryon.

The Grove at Cary Park - Starting at 595. Look pretty nice from what I've seen of them, but it's almost in Apex/Morrisville which might be a little far from where you want to be.

Marquis at Silverton - Have a buddy who live there, seems to like it pretty well. Located in Cary, but really close to Harrison Ave. I-40 exit so it's a quick hop to Gorman St. exit.

Westgrove Tower - I've heard some people say they liked this place, but I've never seen it myself. I know they have studios for around 535 and 1 bdr. layouts in the low 600s. It's right on Western Blvd. across from Kmart and the 1.50 theatre

Those are just a few suggestions. It's actually pretty easy to find apartments on the interweb, I used apartmentguide.com last time, rent.com works pretty well too. I know from personal experience while looking for 1 bdr. places that the further you get from NCSU campus the better off you are. Living near State you pay a premium for location. If you're willing to add an extra 5 minutes to your drive to and from Ruckus you can get a lot more apartment for the same rent and live some place where you won't have to worry about getting your stereo stolen. I'd suggest looking in Cary and in Raleigh around the Millbrook/Creedmor areas. It's not going to be more than a 20 minute drive almost anywhere in Raleigh or Cary unless you're hitting rush hour traffic which you should miss given the fact that you run a bar.

Of course, if you can tough it out at your current location for say... 6 more months you can move into a 2 or 3 bdr. place with me, my kickass dog, and my brand new leather La-Z-Boy furniture and save yourself a couple of hundred per month.

^yeah, i'm reluctant to stray too far from the campus area, though, because of work. i need to be within 8-10 miles from work, roughly. good lookin out on those Cary ones. I had no idea the Ashborough was so cheap. I'll look into it. also, I heard that motherfuckers get stabbed at Westgrove towers.

You'd be surprised just how much shit is 8-10 miles from the I-40 Gorman St. exit. Only reason I posted Westgrove Tower is that it has studios.

When I was looking around about 6 months ago I couldn't believe how much stuff was in Cary that is waaaaay nicer than the stuff around campus for a similar price.

I stayed at Cameron Village Condos II for 3 years and generally liked it. Just north of CV along Daniels street, my 1br was $495/mo though the prices vary since they're individually owned and managed. Small (566 sq ft.), no dishwasher, and odd AC/heat (wallmount unit like in a hotel) were the drawbacks, but it was a nice enough place in a great location for cheap. Is Wedgewood one of the complexes over near Fletcher park along Washington St.? Those are nice too, 620 is less than I thought those went for.

Speaking generally you can't go wrong with the Cameron Village area, at least in my opinion.

Sumter Square at Jones Franklin & Beltline has an ok 1BR. The price is a little high, but you shouldn't have any problems, especially if you get an upstairs apt. Just make sure you note every and any little thing wrong with the unit during move-in. The place is kind of old, and you don't wanna get charged for crap they were supposed to be taking care of.

NOT Birchtree on Buck Jones.

When I was moving out, my new apartment lease overlapped for a few days, which allowed me to move stuff out over a week's time. Birchtree thought that I was gone for good when they saw me moving out the majority of my stuff, and took the remainder (they claimed it had been 'thrown away').

Also, there are nothing but shady tenants there, and loud latin music all time time (gasoliiiiinas, dominos gasoliiiinas...). I'm pretty sure the 'ice cream man' was selling drugs out of that van, too since I always saw adults running to catch him, and no kids, ever.

Oh, and I forgot about RPD setting up roadblocks every couple of months, to find suspects in the complex

I like wildwoods, I'm in a 2br though. It's really quiet, you're right in the woods, just a few yards from the lake johnson trails, and I have a view of the lake during the cold months.

In the hunt myself, probably for a studio or 1BR as well.

I haven't actually visited anywhere other than driving around them, but these are on my list at the moment.

Wedgwood Apartments (near Cameron Village) $620 Studio
Grosvenor Gardens $450 Studio
Cameron Court $?
Raleigh Apartments $600 1 BR
Shelton Apartments $575 1 BR
Boylan Apartments... know nothing about this can't find any info online just saw it
Oaks at Weston $625 I'll be working in RTP so it's convenient but I don't really want to be in the middle of nowhere
Wildwoods at Lake Johnson $600 1 BR

I've heard so many great things about Wildwoods, but I drove by there and it looked a little run down, plus one building was completely burned out so that only the frame was left. Always a bit worrisome.

If anybody has any info on any of those that hasn't already been provided in this thread, it would be much appreciated.

^ if you get a one bedroom, not just a studio, you don't have to have desk, etc in your room. the living areas of the 1 bedrooms are really big at the raleigh apartments. in lieu of a dining room table you could make an office area. or you could probably fit a small table, living area, and office area in the living area. but by the same token, the bedrooms are really big too, so having a desk in it might not be that terrible.
