Off the top of my head:

Marcus Melvin's phantom foul in the Vanderbilt NCAA Tourney game and the technical on the bench in the Maryland ACC Tourney game -- both in '04, I think.

And of course, the TA touchdown/no touchdown call at the end of the UNC game.

this is easily the game where (was it colorado? to lazy to do any research) got 5 downs from the goal line and scored on the 5th. I don't know if that counts as a single call, but that was the worst officiating in sports, period.

Yeah, it was Colorado.

I was trying to find something related to MLB ump Bruce Froemming and found these quotes

from brucefroemming.com:

Quote :
""Bruce Froemming was an absolute terror at first - a cross between Napoleon and Hitler," Larry Dierker said."

Quote :
"In 2001, he was suspended for 10 games for calling an Umpiring Administrator a "stupid Jew Bitch". "

the fifth down was colorado - missouri in 1990, the same year CU split the national title with Georgia Tech

espm classic just ran an all day special showing games from all sports with the worst officials' calls. It was during bowl season over winter break... I watched the whole Colorado game. Even the announcers didn't mention it

the reason i think it was so bad was because so many officials messed it up. these other calls are generally one person fucking up, that was an entire crew.

it is mind boggling. if your the guy that holds the marker, your only just is to stand where the ball starts and flip the switch the right down, and even he messed that up. just not sure how it can even be argued that that isn't the worst piece of officiating in sports history.

That shitbag Jeffrey Maier stealing the ball from Tony Torasco in the ALCS game that led to the Yankees run of World Series. I know, they probably would have won anyways.

That ref missing Hogan's elbow being clearly up at the count of one, let alone two or three, to lose the title to Andre the Giant.

I don't see how anyone watching that Miami / OSU clip can say that it's not pass interference. The dude isn't looking at the ball and it practically hugging the OSU player. If you want to complain that it was a late flag, fine, but that was textbook pass interference.

the chair umpire misscored a game with one of the williams sisters and they ended up losing the game because of it. that was pretty bad. especially since there was a scoreboard that had it right.

they changed the rule after the game.

according to the rules, the ref made the right call.

we need to start a thread called worst rules of all time, this one would be in the top 2 or 3.

The yankees would have lost that game b/c the O's led 4-3 at the time of the Jeter "hr". It was game 1 of the series and because of fat ass Maier, they took game 1 and then the series before going on and beating the Braves in the WS.

Also Eric Gregg FOR AN ENTIRE FUCKING GAME against the Braves in the 1997 NLCS. Burn in hell fat fuck.

freshman year when we were playing osu...the refs said it was an interception when it obviously hit the ground...they scored off that turnover and ended up winning by like a touchdown or 3 points or some shit

Meh the 9ers got dicked the season before in a Monday night game @ GB. Don Beebee was clearly touched and downed before he got up and ran in for a score. So I guess they cancel each other out.

I agree, its not like was really close or anything. Its pretty obvious it was PI. But most people on here are bitter over OSU, so its a one sided argument mostly.

Fifth down Colorado vs. Mizzou

Oregon vs. Oklahoma onside kick "recovery"
Same game, PI call on an obviously tipped ball.

Miami vs. OSU PI call

Pretty much any game Ron Cherry has ever officiated

Stanford vs. Cal "The Play" - Cal players were clearly down on at least 2 separate occasions and at least 1 lateral was a forward pass.

Not surprisingly the majority of horrible, horrible calls come from sports without professional officials.

"The Hand of God goal (Spanish: Mano de Dios) was scored as the result of an illegal (but unpenalized) handball by Diego Maradona in the quarter-final match of the 1986 FIFA World Cup between England and Argentina, played on 22 June 1986 in Mexico City's Estadio Azteca. Argentina won 2–1 and for some English people the legacy of this event perhaps best symbolizes the rivalry between the two teams, and is usually mentioned whenever the two sides meet."
