Shaq's spending only thing bigger than he is

He's been known as "The Big Aristotle", "The Big Daddy", "The Big Baryshnikov" and "The Big Fundamental." Now Shaquille O'Neal can add another name to his already lengthy list of aliases: The Big Spender.

The Miami center, who is in the third year of a 5-year, $100 million contract with the Heat, routinely spends $875,015 per month, the Palm Beach Post reported on its Web site, citing an accounting document from O'Neal's divorce filing.

Among Shaq's most costly monthly expenditures, according to the newspaper, are, in order:

# $156,116 in mortgages on three homes (including his $20 million mansion on Miami Beach's Star Island), plus $31,299 in homeowners insurance;
# $110,505 for vacations;
# $26,500 a month for child care;
# $24,300 for gas;
# $17,220 for clothing;
# $12,775 for food;
# $10,065 for electricity;
# $10,000 for temporary child support;
# $10,000 for alimony;
# $6,730 for dry cleaning;
# $5,000 for car payments;
# $3,345 for phone bills;
# $2,305 for pets;
# $1,610 for lawn and pool maintenance;
# $1,495 for cable TV

But lest you think the Diesel is only out for himself and spending too recklessly, he also donates to the government, in the form of $5.41 million in federal income taxes, and over $900,000 in property taxes.

Think the new nickname could catch on?

kinda amazing

There is no way he spends that much on a lot of those things.

GAS
DRY CLEANING
CABLE
VACATIONS

$24.3k in gas @ $3.5 a gallon comes out to 6942 gallons a month.
Thats 231gal a day.

Granted I know he has multiple cars, but I seriously doubt he drives them all at the same time all day long.

well you have to obviously account for all the people on his personal payroll

that's obviously not just his personal individual expenditures

BUT IT SURE IS SENSATIONAL!!!1

I'd be living in a hotel (a nice one!) and donating the rest to charity.

cable bill can be easily explained if he has a T3 internet connection in each home.

If this was from his divorce proceedings, itd be advantageous for him to claim spending as much as possible per month, in order to reduce flexible income for alimony

Right?

But seriously, I think this is bullshit.

Also, "Getting a prenup 101" should be a required college course for athletes in the "graduate with minimal effort" track.

also, I thought

$110,505 for vacations.

Per month.

Good lord, where the fuck is the man going? Is he bringing his entire entourage? And ordering high-class hookers for all of them?

haha seems like it should all really go under "vacation" -- must be nice to have unlimited money just cause you're huge and you can dunk without jumping. don't get me wrong, though. that alone won't get you 20 million a year

i just dont see ole kenny making that kind of money in the future

anyways, i could see the huge cable bill. mine was like 149 a month, then after i had lived here a year my "deal" ran out and it jumped up to over 200. so i got rid of the one premium channel i had, and went down to extended, and dropped the phone (different section i guess but it was only 40). now its 109. it could easily be huge if you add all the "on demand" channels and all the HBOs and showtimes and all that crap.

also it looks like he must have cable internet (or he doesnt use the internet). but i'd imagine he has the best package of that too, and that would count in cable (or phone if he uses DSL i guess).

point is, if i had money coming in faster than i could spend it, i wouldnt even worry with the different packages, i'd just say give me all of it and save the time. damn his time is so valuable. i'd imagine that if i were a super baller, i'd want to spend every minute doing super baller things... and not trying to cut my cable bill.

Av-Gas and Jet-A are more expensive than what you pay at the pump and obviously used at an extremely high rate. I'd bet if he doesn't own one outright, he's in a partnership (not fractional) with another player... that could easily add up to those numbers.

you really think? if he puts away just a fraction of his earnings each year (over the 5 years of his 20m/yr contract) into savings and safe/boring investments, he can easily make millions alone off interest and such, even over something as "short" as a 5 year time frame. not to mention assets/equity/etc. he's got some pretty prime real estate. hell, just the land will probably be worth a fuckton in 10 years.

i think it's pretty safe to say that he's spending money about as hard as you can, and he's still got tons left over... and even if it's going under his mattress, i think he'll be ok forever

not to mention the credit that guy has. if he broke his leg today, he could get enough shit on credit cards to last him a lifetime before he broke the news, and live off that forever
