Searched and couldn't find anything about this...
I've got a 99 Jeep Wrangler and I need a new soft top. Are tops on ebay worth a damn? And if so, is it something a car novice could put on, or would I probably need to go somewhere to get it done?
Thanks. 1/26/2008 10:34:44 AM |

JCash, screw eBay. Just go to your local junkyards and find a good one. 1/26/2008 2:24:38 PM |

Have you tried posting the question on jeepforum.com or searching that site for advice? I have an '05 TJ and that site has been incredibly helpful in answering questions I didn't even know I needed to ask.
Also, try searching jcwhitney.com and quadratec.com. You can find 20 percent off coupons on sites like retailmenot.com to get the price even lower.

What is the brand name of the ones you are looking at on eBay? Quality is really going to depend on the condition of it (new/used) and the brand.
I had an OEM top on my wrangler. Looked pretty simple to replace. The frame itself can be taken apart in a matter of minutes to slide it through the new top. 1/26/2008 4:18:17 PM |

^^thanks for the site. I will definitely check that out.
^The two brands I was thinking of buying from are Rugged Ridge or Rampage Products. But I may look around locally too and see what I can find. There was a Craigslist ad in Charlotte too, so I might see if I can get pictures. 1/27/2008 9:27:08 AM |

don't mess with an off brand top, the savings aren't worth the headache of dealing with poor fitment, crappy zippers, and cheap fabric. i wouldn't consider anything but a new/used factory one or bestop. 1/29/2008 12:14:30 AM |

^ what ivan said. get a used factory sailcloth top. i think up until 01 on the tj will fit your 99. might want to check on that to make sure. search on http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/ and you should find your answer. the sailcloth tops are really nice 1/29/2008 12:41:17 PM |
