He grew up in Building 6000 on Peabody Street in Northwest D.C., and attended seven different high schools in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, finally graduating from Quince Orchard High School in 2002. He went to Robert Morris College and Virginia State University on football scholarships, then Bowie State University but dropped out in 2004 to pursue music full-time. Quote :
"Wale Confirms New Mixtape, Album And Roots Collaboration
February 16th, 2008 | Author: ------

Reported by Amanda Bassa.

D.C. area rapper Wale has recently released information regarding upcoming projects that have been in the works. Fans can expect his next mixtape, the Mixtape About Nothing, around mid-to-late March. Despite the title, the mixtape will definitely be about a lot of something. While speaking with DX, Wale explained, "It's a lot of issues I'm talking about...a lot of deeper things I'm talking about."

Seinfeld fans can expect something uniquely interesting from the mixtape, as the sitcom will be referenced throughout. However, you don't need to be a Seinfeld fan to appreciate the mixtape - as Wale said, "They're going to like it because of the lyrical excellence that I exercise on it...you'll get it. Immediately."

Wale, who despite a rising notoriety has yet to release an album, has a debut LP in the works that is looking at afFall 2008 release.

In addition, Wale recorded the song "Work," as a tribute to Black Thought on his most recent mixtape 100 Miles & Runnin'. The song was recorded over The Roots' "Thought @ Work," where the D.C. emcee cited the Philadelphia veteran as his leading inspiration. Wale has reportedly been invited as a confirmed guest on The Roots' forthcoming album, which will also see a mid-2008 release. "

"Wale has signed a joint venture deal with Mark Ronson's Allido imprint and Interscope Records. The product of Washington D.C. has made his presence known as an unsigned artist and received support from the likes of Just Blaze, Jay-Z and Bun B. According to Miss Info, Ronson will executive produce the forthcoming album and Pharrell, Just Blaze, Kanye West and 9th Wonder are all rumored to make contributions as well. In addition to Wale, Rhymefest, and R&B artist Daniel Merriweather are also under the Allido umbrella.

"Look at their track record," Wale says of Interscope. "Dre, Eminem, 50, Pharrell, Timbaland, Black Eyed Peas, Soulja Boy...and the list goes on." Wale and his management team cited Interscope's ability to understand his vision as the deciding factor in the signing.

There is currently no set date or title for the album, but Wale will be releasing his Seinfeld inspired "Mixtape About Nothing" very soon. More information on Wale is available in his DX Next feature, on his MySpace page and at http://www.walemusic.com."

"Wag The Blog: NahRight reports “Rising Up” will be The Roots’ first single; I have no idea
Posted The Elitaste on March 26th, 2008 | Filed under Wale, Announcements, Clients

According to NahRight.com:

The Roots have decided to axe their initial first single from Rising Down.

From Okayplayer:

We told you a few weeks ago that “Birthday Girl” could easily get dropped off of Rising Down. We received word over the weekend that the song is now the International Single and will be an iTunes exclusive. It will not appear on the North American release.

That’s pretty interesting. I understand the new single might be Rising Up which features two verses from Black Thought, one from Wale and a Chrisette Michele hook.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2008/04/caps_go_culture.html

Quote :
"Adapted from previous items for purposes of newspaper excerpting.)

The residents of the Verizon Center are undergoing some sort of musical moment this spring. Indie rocker Stephen Malkmus has played a tune called the Caron Butler Blues, telling the Village Voice he has a man-crush on Butler. Syd Butler, the bassist for indie rockers Les Savy Fav, made his way into the Caps dressing room after last Thursday's win over the Lightning and is blogging about the team for NHL.com. Metal rappers Pummeler have recorded a pleasant ditty called "Ovechkin," featuring the following child-friendly verse:

(don't be) fooled cuz he's a Russian
(it's) your body he'll be crushin
(it's your) tears that will be flowing
(and your) blood that will be gushin

As mentioned earlier, the thrash death metal gents from Darkest Hour have recorded their own Caps anthem and are also in the throes of Ovechkin love, with guitarist Mike Schleibaum telling ReadExpress.com's Christopher Porter that watching Ovechkin is "like watching Eddie Van Halen on skates -- well, if Eddie could skate" and promising to get members of the Caps into a mosh pit during a Stanley Cup celebration at Ovechkin's mansion.

Which brings us to Wale, the D.C.-born go-go-fueled rapper who in recent weeks dropped some puck into his latest track, "Back in the Go Go" like so:

Yeah - Still high two stepping it; Do it for the capital, Wale Ovechkin

Wale Ovechkin? What in the name of Pollin is that all about?

"It's a double meaning: capital is money and the Capital is Washington D.C.," Wale said during a brief telephone conversation this afternoon. "I mean, I mentioned Olaf Kolzig before, but the song never made it out....It was kind of like the same thing: 'Olaf Kolzig, my goal is capital.'...A lot of rappers mention sports a lot, but it's mostly basketball. Mines are a little bit more obscure. I guess my brain works a little differently, I don't know. I don't hear too many of those [hockey references]. It is what it is. It's just part of rap, just staying relevant with things that are going on."

So he's a Caps fan?

"Never even been to a Capitals game; watch 'em on TV every once in a while," Wale said. "I'd root for them when I watch because it's D.C. I root for every local team, definitely root for them. And it doesn't hurt that we have the best player in hockey, it don't hurt."

I don't know whether Stephen Malkmus has previously praised D.C. athletes, but Wale has, of course, made liberal use of D.C. sports references throughout his career, from Freddy Adu to John Gilchrist ("Home of the Terrapins, beware of the Gilchrist"), from Sean Taylor to Clinton Portis to a Redskins rap penned for Comcast SportsNet, from Gilbert Arenas to the Hoyas. ("The home of Marvin Gaye; That's all I gotta say; Yeah, Iverson was cool; but I supported Victor Page.")

"I just write," he said, when asked how he decides which local athletes to mix into his verse. "It's not like you say, 'I'm gonna mention four players [now],' you know what I mean? It's just whatever I'm thinking about at the time. You're just writing a song, and whatever comes out, you don't really plan it."

His checklist now includes players from the Caps, the Wizards, the Redskins, D.C. United, Maryland and Georgetown, but no Nats. Does this cultural moment not extend to Half Street?

"I wear a Washington Nationals hat every day," Wale offered. "I'm wearing one right now, actually.""

im just sayin, blaming wale for the proliferation of nike boots as a style across the DMV area is lke the chicken/egg thing....if anything Wale's success with that single is due to the fact that everywhere in NE DC might as well be sponsored by Nike and TNF (all black of course), and has been as long as I've lived up here (4 years), but i know that has been associated with the urban DC look for longer
