4dr EX (4cyl)
How hard would it be to replace this bitch myself?
it's at 190k.
I bought the car at 114k and the guy didn't know if it had been done or not.
It hasn't broke or anything, I just don't feel like gambling any more.
Anyone know how hard it is to get to it on this engine? 1/30/2008 11:36:48 AM |

im doing my GFs. 2000 EX right now. actually starting after work.
i did my integra, its DOHC with is harder than the SOHC. but it was an easy job (ive got experience with hondas).
the SOHC shouldnt be hard.
the interval is 105K (i think it used to be 70K) from what a lot of places tell you.
you're gonna need the belt/waterpump, timing belt tensioner(w/spring).
with 190K miles i would say go ahead and get the cam and crank seals.
oh and accessory belts.
if you're mechanically inclined, this shouldnt be too hard. but if you are used to doing only oil changes, then dont bother. but its really not that bad.
it required removing the driver side mount (both if doing access. belts) and using the jack and some wood to hold the motor up. so make sure you have enough room and the right tools

^^
make sure to count the number of belt teeth between all of the pulleys etc. and replace with the same count. (if you can get some kind of book, haynes or online that will save you a lot of trouble) 1/30/2008 12:56:55 PM |

or just goto parts store and they'll give you the right one.
but yeah i always double check to make sure it is the correct belt. 1/30/2008 1:06:04 PM |
