aight so me and my roommate had a 32" Sony tv, old school style with rabbit ears on it and we got channels [5,11,17,22,28,30,40,44,47,50]. But that tv died and we got a good deal on a 47" panasonic HDTV 1080i

we hooked it up to the rabbit ears and now the only channels we get are 5(very very bad picture) and 11(decent but not the best) and none of the other channels work. So what are we doin wrong? this is both of ours first HDTV and we tried switchin from ANT1 to ANT2 and back and that still didnt help.

So for all of yall home theater gurus out there please help us HDTV noobs out.

^ fuck that, we would end up payin more for the cable in like 3 months then we did for the whole tv. we dont watch that much TV anyways. we just watch movies and play games on it alot

check to see if you have a menu option for auto channel memory for over-the-air channels. might get you a few until you get the cable. my tv has the feature as well (i accidentally did the search for over-the-air channels instead of cable about a week ago). hope that helps

Why in the fuck would you buy an HD tv if you don't want to watch tv in HD? My digital cable + HD channels is ~$80 a month, it would take a hell of a lot more than 3 months to match the price of that tv.

Get yourself a powered indoor antenna. You can probably pick one up for $20.

Your new TV should have both an analog tuner (NTSC) and a digital tuner (ATSC). You must have your TV scan for digital channels before you can see them. Just pressing channel up and down does not do this. So, get out your user guide and figure out how to get it to scan for digital channels, you will be greately rewarded with High Definition and many more channels than you got before.

Secondly, what antenna are you using? I trust you are using the one from the previous TV, right?

yes we are using the antenna from the previous TV, we got the tv for $400 bucks and it still has warranty on it, its two years old. we tried to do a channel scan thing, but when you goto the channel scan option all it lets you do is choose "ALL" or "FAV" and doesnt actually let you scan. I think that setting is for when you press the search button on the remote it puts 3 PIP boxes on the right side of the screen and scans thru all the channels or your fav channels.
