I like how Bush is only including expenditures for the war in Iraq through the end of his term, then doesn't budget for any more money to be spent. 1/31/2008 11:38:52 PM |

I never said they weren't yearly, nor that the gov't fiscal year started in january. I was commenting that I thought the proposal was pretty crappy. Did they not teach you guys to read?

Yah, he pulls this trick every year I think, not budgeting for the Iraq War.
If I understand it all correctly, this is exactly why congress is always debating spending bills for the war. The entire thing is left to "discretionary" spending.
I don't know why he does it that way. I've heard folks like Paul Krugman say that it's a sleezy way to make him look more fiscally conservative. *shrug*

"While the deficit should decline after 2009, Gregg said, long-term costs for Medicare and Social Security will drive it back up again."
wow, someone mentioned the 800lb gorrilla in the room.
I guess we should factor in the massive increase in entitlements proposed by the dems. Good news is that wont hit us until 09.

So pretty much spending increased in everything beyond inflation other than education, health care, labor programs, management of national lands, and housing.
