I didn't throw my hat though, because I was ballin out in a club level suite... but anyway, after watching this guy play in real life a few times this season... I think the CAPS definitely made the right move with the $124 million over 13 years contract.

I've been more than pleased watching the Capitols the past few weeks. It's hard for me to watch hockey on TV - but EVERY time this law firm gives me the chance to pay $25 for club seats in their suite - I'm taking it. I can see how the Capitols are making fistfuls of cash just b/c of Ovechkin.

The greatest player in the game right now as far as I'm concerned, and also the best personality. It's like everyone loves him regardless of what team they cheer for. Now, once the Capitals get good he's going to become more of an enemy for people, but as it is, this guy should be the NHL's golden boy. Fuck Crosby.

I'm a Pens fan and I'll admit that he's better than Crosby at this point. Both are great offensive players, but Alex will hit you.

I also agree with you, though, that part of what makes Alex so appealing to fans at this point is "haha! he's like Balki from Perfect Strangers, except he plays really good hockey on a harmless team!"

The Caps have sucked from the point that they got him until about two months ago. Once they're actually a threat, the lovefest will slow down.

Leonsis was wise in locking him up for a long time. Washington needs Ovechkin to be a draw way more than Pittsburgh needs Crosby. The Caps are 27th in the league in regards to attendance at home games. The Penguins are pretty established and have a big fan base thanks mainly to Mario and the early 90s all-star team they assembled. Caps fans have. . . Dale Hunter? Al Iafrate? Dino Cicciarelli? Consistent playoffs series losses to the Pens?

Dude, I've never been to an NHL game until this season... now I am either center ice or in an exec suite at maybe 1/4 of the games. The man is doing his job, the Caps are getting pretty sick, attendence has skyrocketed; it's all on the up and up.

I still think people will love him after the Caps make the playoffs this season and surprises some motherfuckers.

OK, apparently the game I referenced in the first post might put Ovechkin over the top for NHL's MVP this year -- everyone's been making a big deal about it. It's pretty amazing to get your nose broken, get slashed in the face, then score 4 goals and assist another.

As if him scoring 7 more goals than the 2nd leading goal scorer isnt' enough!
