I don't think you ever got a look at the pre-motorcycle wreck Frank Mir, but he was jacked up to the moon with tremendous BJJ skills. He had sick hips for a HW, the only guy with quick hips like Mir at HW was Big Nog. Post accident Frank was obviously having problems training (understandable with a rod in your femur) and he looked shitty in one fight, good in the next, then shitty, then good. Well, he had some significant time off and he came into the weigh-ins tonight looking incredible. Now, just looking good does not guarantee cardio or say anything about flexibility and skills, but if he's trained the way it looks like he's trained then we may see a top 15 HW in there.

Lesnar is just a monster. He's got more raw strength than anyone who has ever competed at the 265 lbs. limit. He's a legitimate threat as a wrestler, he is a JC champ, and a NCAA champ at HW. No question about his wrestling ability, it's really a question of how well he'll be able to incorporate his striking and transitions. He's only been training MMA for a year or year and a half so it should be interesting to see where he is development wise.

He obliterated his first opponent (some big Korean kickboxer), but he's taking a huge step up in opponent. If he is able to take Mir down and dominate him from top position it'll say a lot. I can't imagine he'll try to stand up or try to sub a BJJ black belt, so look for Lesnar to GNP. Mir should look to strike from the outside and try to keep Brock at bay. If he can get the takedown at some point or sweep and get top position following a Lesnar takedown he could win via sub.

It's a classic power vs. skill match, generally speaking skill wins out, but it wouldn't shock me if Lesnar pounded out an early win.

There really isn't a bad UFC card upcoming for the next couple of months. Next headline fight is Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva for UFC 82. UFC 83 is GSP vs. Matt Serra with Shogun vs. TBA (rumored to be Chuck Liddell). I believe 84 is supposed to have Tito vs. Machida and Sherk vs. BJ Penn. There are some absolutely loaded cards coming up. 2008 promises to be the best year of MMA ever.

Oh, and outside of the UFC there is Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le soon (March maybe).
